The Cleveland=20
Shakespeare=20
Festival 2001

We are pleased to announce our fourth season! This year we are presenting=20
CORIOLANUS and MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING in two locations: the Shaker Heights=20
Colonnade and on the campus of Tri-C West in Parma.=20

CORIOLANUS will open Friday, June 29 at 6:30pm at the Shaker Heights=20
Colonnade. Directed by Brian Zoldessy, it is perhaps Shakespeare's most=20
overtly political play, more so even than the histories, Coriolanus takes as=
=20
its hero a man completely lacking in political gifts--a stubborn soldier,=20
brought down by an overweening pride and an inability to compromise with the=
=20
forces that seek his downfall. Coriolanus is trapped between two worlds--he=20
is a kingly figure, born to command; yet, at the same time he finds himself=20
inhabiting a republican political reality that--though he himself has helped=
=20
to create it--he cannot endure.=20

Our second show, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, presented through Actors=E2=80=99 E=
quity,=20
the professional stage actors union, as an Actors=E2=80=99 Equity Members=
=E2=80=99 Code=20
Project Production will open Friday, July 6 at 6:30pm, also at the Shaker=20
Heights Colonnade. Directed by Lisa Ortenzi, it is one of Shakespeare=E2=80=
=99s most=20
popular and enduring romantic comedies, deception, slander, and bumbling=20
incompetence rule the day. When Don Pedro=E2=80=99s men return from war thei=
r=20
thoughts turn to pursuits of the heart. But Count Claudio=E2=80=99s new love=
 for Hero=20
is undermined by the trickery of the jealous Don John, who convinces Claudio=
=20
that Hero has been unfaithful. Claudio accuses Hero on the day of their=20
intended wedding and general havoc ensues.=20

Many old faces return to grace the stage of the Festival, among them are=20
Allen Branstein, Mike Roache, Mark Cipra, Kimberly Mahoney, Joshua Brown,=20
John Lynch, and Paul Kaiser. =20

There are many new faces as well, Nick Koesters, Jodi Lee Maile, James=20
Workman, Leilani Barrett, Mark Rabant, John Fleming, Matt McDermott as well=20
as many others.
Complete cast lists will be posted on our website (see below.)=20

The return of Tonya Beckman and Jay Kim herald the start of a new era for th=
e=20
Festival as they are producing MUCH ADO as an Equity Members Project under=20
the umbrella of the Shakespeare Festival. This gives an opportunity to see=20
three local Equity members (Beckman, Kim, and Juliette Regnier) explore the=20
sexual politics of the play at a deeper level. Two of the traditionally mal=
e=20
characters, Leonato and Don John, are being portrayed as women, thus=20
intensifying the depths of deception and betrayal. The first three weekends=20
of the Festival will be presented at the Shaker Heights Colonnade (3450=20
LeeRoad, Shaker Heights, OH.) The final two weekends will be presented on=20
the Tri-C Western Campus (11000 Pleasant Valley Rd., Parma, OH.) For=20
