Alma de la Tierra (Soul of the Land) is an evening-length piece

18 professional dancers/actors and children. The work utilizes
magic-realism (Latin America's primary literary movement) to create a
collage of images, movement and theatricality. Presented with elements
of fantasy and myth, Alma de la Tierra creates a world that is both
familiar and dreamlike. With the collaboration of set designers Robin
VanLear and Rosario Fernandez & Felix Diaz of Compania PLANETAZUL from
Mexico, costume design by Janet Bolick and lighting design by Deborah
Malcolm, Alma de la Tierra features the music of many Latin-American
composers including Astor Piazzolla, Inti Illimani, Susana Baca and Los
Van, as well as the poetry of Pablo Neruda and other regional artists.
The accomplished cast includes Tom and Susana Evert, Meghan Hass
(formerly of the Cleveland San Jose Ballet), Brian Murphy (Ohio Ballet
member), Mac Ngoc Hoang, (Dancing Wheels member), Tennille Craig, Taryn
Makaab (of South Africa) Aimee Zannoni, as well as featured soloist,

Dance Company of Utah and DanzAmerica Company of Venezuela.) Also making
an appearance will be supporting actors/dancers Lynna Metrisin, Mary
Kukich, Kim Sethna and selected children from "arts in education"
residencies.

Foundation. BASICs organizations receive operating support, customized
technical assistance and grants to help build capacity to manage the
necessary risk-taking of their art forms. Additional funds will be
raised through a silent auction and benefit hosted by the board of

A new place called "The Enclave: Coffeeshop & Video Rental" is opening on
Erie Street in downtown Willoughby (a few storefronts away from Arabica) and
is looking for people to fill their stage and their walls. They told me
that they are going to be officially open next week and want to have live
entertainment every night... musicians, jugglers, poets, drama... anything
you want to do, they are willing to book. In addition, they would like to
feature fresh artwork, so painters, photographers etc. with work to display
are also encouraged to stop by. I'm not sure what the rest of the details
are (like their phone number if any yet), but if you're nearby, stop in and
introduce yourself to get on the roster. Looks like it's got the potential
to be a very happening spot!
Plus: Don't Forget! - Robin Stone, Andrew Rothman & David Flood @
Chagrin Valley Little Theater Benefit this Saturday night (6/30)!
$7 - 8-10 pm - 440-247-8955 for reservations
See you there!

Actors' Summit Extends Run of
I Do! I Do!
Hit Musical Continues Through July 28
The critically acclaimed production of I Do! I Do! by Actors' Summit, a

Harvey Schmidt is filled with laughter and love. The run will continue at the

Hardware). The store is 1 1/2 miles south of Rt. 303 on Route 91 in Hudson.
"There are three reasons why we're extending," said Neil Thackaberry,
Artistic Director. "The audiences have been building wonderfully, the
audience response has been terrific with frequent standing ovations, and the
cast is just having so much fun."
The production has received rave notices, with Connie Blum of the Beacon
Journal stating it "should not be missed." and David Ritchie of the West Side
Leader proclaiming it "the perfect wedding party."
The Play
The play by the creative team responsible for the longest running musical in

later as the couple prepare to leave their home for a smaller apartment.

with laughter and love. From wedding night jitters, to the birth of children
and the strains experienced by every married couple, the play is a warm and
tuneful look at the American family and the changes that come with time and
love.

The production features Wayne S. Turney and MaryJo Alexander.

When: On Friday, June 29 @ 8:00PM Polly Pen's
acclaimed operaretta opens the 2001 Lakeland Theatre.
She Loves Me, will open next weekend. Both shows will
run in repertory the following two weekends.
What: Bed and Sofa, by Polly Pen and Laurence Klavan,
is a wacky tale based on a controversial 1926 silent
Russian film. Featuring Beth Cubbison, Curtis Proctor
and Eric Nuemore and directed by Gustavo Urdaneta, Bed
and Sofa is NOT your 'mother's opera'! It tells the
story of a woman's emancipation in a time and country
not especially fond of anyone's emancipation. Indeed,
it harkens back to Ibsen's A Doll House. Another
wonderful thing about this production is the humor
that comes through.
Bed and Sofa runs approximately 1hour and 15 minutes,
no intermission.
Where: at Lakeland Community College. Take I 90 east
to Rt. 306. Take a right on 306 (south) and turn left
into Lakeland Community College. Park in the
faculty/staff parking lot. The theatre is just to the
left of the clocktower. (The theatre is cold so bring
a sweater!)

This Saturday, June 30th, at 8 PM a musical benefit will be held at the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre. Funds raised will be used in part toward costs for the upcoming OCTA state acting competition. The cast of ALL IN THE TIMING qualified for the state competition by winning five major awards at the regional competition in mid-June.
Among the acts playing is a modern folk band--the Robin Stone Band-- led by Solon's Robin Stone, a prolific songwriter and musician. Ms. Stone's song, SCATTERED, was one of the top 50 contemporary singles and her music is now being played nationwide.
Joining her and her band are Andrew Rothman, a very talented singer/actor/drummer from the rock band Serious Aeloian Belfry, and teenaged guitar prodigy David Flood. Andrew's CD, "No Stairway, No Freebird",was one of Ohio's top pop releases in 2000 on mp3.com.
All musicians are donating their performances for the theatre's benefit.
Tickets are $7 each and are available by calling our box office at 440-247-8955. The Chagrin Valley Little Theatre is located at 40 River Street, Chagrin Falls.

I Do! by Actors' Summit, a
professional theater, will extend its run on Friday and Saturday evenings

The Play
The play by the creative team responsible for the longest running musical in

and the strains experienced by every married couple, the play is a warm and
tuneful look at the American family and the changes that come with time and
love.
The Cast

Actors' Summit Extends Run of
I Do! I Do!
Hit Musical Continues Through July 28
The critically acclaimed production of I Do! I Do! by Actors' Summit, a
professional theater, will extend its run on Friday and Saturday evenings
through July 28 at 7:30 PM. The classic two person musical by Tom Jones and
Harvey Schmidt is filled with laughter and love. The run will continue at the
theater's temporary space -- the hardware store (the former Sherman
The Play
The play by the creative team responsible for the longest running musical in
history (The Fantasticks) opened on Broadway with Robert Preston and Mary
Martin. The musical is an intimate look at a marriage. It begins on the
wedding night of a young couple in the year 1900. The play concludes 50 years
later as the couple prepare to leave their home for a smaller apartment.
Based on the play The Fourposter, I Do, I Do is a feel-good musical filled
with laughter and love. From wedding night jitters, to the birth of children
and the strains experienced by every married couple, the play is a warm and
tuneful look at the American family and the changes that come with time and
love.
The Cast
The production features Wayne S. Turney and MaryJo Alexander.
Wayne S. Turney is well known to Northeast Ohio audiences from his years in
the
resident company of the Cleveland Play House and his long running hit
children's show "Hickory Hideout." Wayne founded the Cleveland Actor's
Theatre at the Hanna in downtown Cleveland and The Ohio New Play Festival at
Lorain County Community College's Stocker Center. He has appeared with Actors
Theatre of Louisville, Portland Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, Cleveland
Opera, and is a frequent guest artist with the Cleveland Institute of Music
Orchestra and The Cleveland Orchestra. He recently completed a six year
teaching assignment at Cleveland State University.
MaryJo Alexander is the associate artistic director of Actors'
Summit. She has appeared in The Gingerbread Lady and Otherwise Engaged for
Actors' Summit. MaryJo holds an MA from the University of New Orleans where
she was a member of the Resident Acting Company. MaryJo has also performed at
Ensemble Theatre, Cain Park, Porthouse Theatre and Shakespeare at Stan Hywet.
She has over 20 years of experience as a professional actress and designer.
The Production Team
The production is directed by Neil Thackaberry, Artistic Director of Actors'
Summit. Evie Morris is musical director. Costumes are by MaryJo Alexander,
Associate Artistic Director for Actors' Summit. Set and lighting designs are
by resident designer Robert Stegmiller. Stage Management is by Devon Stanley.
Tickets
Tickets are $22 for adults and $18 for students and seniors. All seats are
reserved. Discounts are available for groups of ten or more.
Tickets may be purchased by mail or phone. Reservations can be made with
Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express at 330-342-0800. Mail orders

Alma de la Tierra (Soul of the Land) is an evening-length piece

magic-realism (Latin America's primary literary movement) to create a

familiar and dreamlike.
Makaab (of South Africa) Aimee Zannoni, as well as featured soloist,

an appearance will be supporting actors/dancers Lynna Metrisin, Mary
Kukich, Kim Sethna and selected children from "arts in education"
residencies.

Foundation. BASICs organizations receive operating support, customized
technical assistance and grants to help build capacity to manage the

Actors' Summit Extends Run of
I Do! I Do!
Hit Musical Continues Through July 28
The critically acclaimed production of I Do! I Do! by Actors' Summit, a
professional theater, will extend its run on Friday and Saturday evenings
through July 28 at 7:30 PM. The classic two person musical by Tom Jones and
Harvey Schmidt is filled with laughter and love. The run will continue at the
theater's temporary space -- the hardware store (the former Sherman
The Play
The play by the creative team responsible for the longest running musical in
history (The Fantasticks) opened on Broadway with Robert Preston and Mary

Actors' Summit Extends Run of
I Do! I Do!
Hit Musical Continues Through July 28
The critically acclaimed production of I Do! I Do! by Actors' Summit, a
professional theater, will extend its run on Friday and Saturday evenings
through July 28 at 7:30 PM. The classic two person musical by Tom Jones and
Harvey Schmidt is filled with laughter and love. The run will continue at the
theater's temporary space -- the hardware store (the former Sherman
The Play
The play by the creative team responsible for the longest running musical in
history (The Fantasticks) opened on Broadway with Robert Preston and Mary

Alma de la Tierra (Soul of the Land) is an evening-length piece
combining stylized dance techniques and dramatic action with a cast of
18 professional dancers/actors and children.
Makaab (of South Africa) Aimee Zannoni, as well as featured soloist,
New York dancer/actor Javier De Cordoba (former member of Ririe-Woodbury
Dance Company of Utah and DanzAmerica Company of Venezuela.) Also making
an appearance will be supporting actors/dancers Lynna Metrisin, Mary
Kukich, Kim Sethna and selected children from "arts in education"
residencies.
Special events are planned surrounding the event beginning at 6:30 p.m.

participating in BASICs; a five-year program of the Cleveland
Foundation. BASICs organizations receive operating support, customized
technical assistance and grants to help build capacity to manage the
necessary risk-taking of their art forms. Additional funds will be
raised through a silent auction and benefit hosted by the board of

Sculpture Center on Euclid Avenue with catering by
"Luchitas" Mexican Restaurant.
