PRELIMINARY AUDITIONS FOR 2001-2002 MUSICALS
THE FANTASTICKS and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF=20

    (Akron, Ohio, July 10, 2001, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE...) Weathervane=20
Playhouse will hold PRELIMINARY AUDITIONS for upcoming MUSICALS -- BY=20
APPOINTMENT for the Harvey Schmidt/Tom Jones musical The Fantasticks and the=
=20
Sheldon Harnick/Jerry Bock musical Fiddler on the Roof.  Auditions will be=20
held at Weathervane Playhouse (1301 Weathervane Lane, Akron, In the Valley=20
off Merriman Road).  Auditions will be scheduled in half-hour segments=20
between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 11.  Please call for an=
=20
appointment.
                Prepare:    1 audition song
                Bring sheet music in the correct key.  An accompanist will b=
e=20
provided.
    Director for the production of The Fantasticks is Jacqi Lowey.  Lowey=20
directed  Little Shop of Horrors for Weathervane Playhouse in 1999.  As a=20
director and choreographer, her credits range from Broadway to summer stock.=
 =20
A member of Equity, AFTRA and SAG, she has appeared on Broadway and locally=20
in Playhouse Square=E2=80=99s Shear madness and the Hanna=E2=80=99s Always P=
atsy Cline and=20
also at Kenley Players and Porthouse Theatre.
    Director for the production of Fiddler on the Roof is Dr. James Stuart.=20=
=20
Stuart is known to area audiences for sellout performances at Wooster=E2=80=
=99s Ohio=20
Light Opera Company, where he was Artistic Director for many years.  For=20
Weathervane Playhouse, he directed productions of The Pirates of Penzance an=
d=20
Finian=E2=80=99s Rainbow.  He has performed in more than 1,000 Gilbert and S=
ullivan=20
operettas and has sung opposite Beverly Sills and Joan Sutherland.
    All roles are available for both productions.  Weathervane Playhouse is=20
committed to non-traditional casting.  Except in cases where race, gender,=20
age or disability is essential to the play, all roles will be cast on the=20
basis of talent.  Weathervane Pl;Playhouse is a community theater.  All=20
performers in all productions are volunteers.  For further information and=20
