Kennedy Center Debut 

       On Sunday, August 19, 2001, Martin Cespedes will appear in the
nationally televised PBS performance of  Le Cid, by French composer, Jules
Massenet.  This television premier was filmed at the Kennedy Center in
October, 1999 and starred Placido Domingo in the lead role.  It was directed
by Hugo de Ana whom the Atlantic Monthly described as the greatest dramatic
opera director in the world.  This lavish work has grand-opera quality, a
deeply moving setting, and brilliant staging.  Mr. Cespedes appears in the
full ballet and numerous other scenes.  His twenty years of professional
stage experience as an actor, dancer, director, and choreographer include
the national tours of King and I, and Pedro in Man of La Mancha.
       Future projects include co-directing the independent film,The Edison
Project, with Matthew Putman. Mr. Cespedes will choreograph Saturday Night,
directed by Fred Sternfeld, in February, 2002, and will choreograph and
direct Smokey Joe's Cafe, in the summer of 2002, both productions for the
Beck Center in Cleveland, Ohio
