About Joan Ellison:=20
Joan holds a Bachelor of Music in voice performance and a Master of =
Music in teaching from Oberlin Conservatory, where she was also a =
private piano student of Robert McDonald (accompanist of Midori and =
Isaac Stern) for four years.

Eager to clear up the confusion about "belted" singing, for her own =
performing and to add to her teaching skills, she went to Minneapolis =
for 3 years to study with an expert on the subject, Dr. Leon Thurman, =
author of Bodymind &Voice, incorporating the most up-to-date scientific =
voice research.

She has music-directed 14 shows in the Cleveland area (nee Alyssa Paul), =
including Grand Hotel at Berea Summer Theatre and The Rothschilds at the =
Halle.=20

While in Minneapolis, she was Singing Instructor for the U.S. pilot =
program of the British children's theatre school/casting agency, =
Stagecoach Theatre Arts, Ltd.

She created the course, "Teaching Children to Sing," at Oberlin while an =
adjunct faculty member there in 1994, and has been teaching private =
voice students for the past 9 years. For her own performing, Joan =
specializes in singing popular music of the 1920s-'40s in period vocal =
styles.=20
