Cuyahoga Community College's Center for Arts and Culture presents the
Stimmen World Voices Festival on Saturday, October 27, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. at
the Palace Theatre of Playhouse Square, 1615 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland.
This concert is presented in partnership with the Cleveland Cultural
Alliance, Federation of India Community Associations and the Center for
Study of World Musics at the Hugh A. Glasner School of Music, Kent State
University.  Tickets are available for $30 and $20 by calling (216)
241-6000, or online at tickets.com.  For group rates, season subscriptions,
or for more information, please call (216) 987-2543.  

Internationally-renowned artists performing in Cleveland with the Stimmen
World Voices Festival include:
-Senge, a vocal trio from Madagascar, whose music reflects the country's
unique culture with influences of Portuguese Fado, French Musette and
traditional rhythms of eastern Africa, mixed with polyphonic vocal sounds.
-Abdoulaye Diabete, a native of Mali, a master of West African griot
singing.
-Sudha Rangunathan, one of the most important contemporary vocalists from
southern India, whose techniques have roots in the carnatic style.
-Corin Curschellas of Switzerland, who combines hip-hop in the traditional
Swiss Roman language with French rap, South African township sounds and
Alpine yodeling.
-"Mitsou" Juhacz Miczura, a young Hungarian gypsy singer with a remarkable
voice performs fascinating melodies of her ancestral music.
-Rinde Eckert of the U.S., who combines American blues, jazz and rock in a
uniquely eclectic style with his strong background in contemporary classical
music.
