FUNNY THING HAPPENED... ON ITS WAY TO HUDSON
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, the hilariously funny and
award winning musical by Burt Shevelove, Larry Gelbart and Stephen Sondheim,
is set to open in Hudson, Ohio, Friday evening February 1st. Presented by
The Hudson Players, one of the area's longest running theater troupes, the
show promises a fun filled musical evenings hailing from vaudeville
inspirations
Directed by Rich Jagunic, Forum tells the story of wily slave and consummate
clown Psuedolus, who tries to win his freedom from his kindly young master
Hero, by bringing Hero together with the girl of his dreams. Throw in a
jealous captain, entertaining eunuchs, some half-baked schemes and a few
mistaken identities and the action keeps rolling as we await the fate on the
heroes. Broad comedy, burlesque humor and clever vaudeville inspired numbers
make this show a perennial favorite.
When asked about his own show the prolific Sondheim said the following:
""I think Forum is the best farce ever written. . . . There's not a wasted
moment in Forum, and the truth of the test of it is that the play is just as
funny when performed by a group of high school students as it is when it is
performed on Broadway. It is never not funny. The reason is, it is based on
situations so solid that you cannot not laugh"
Performance dates are scheduled for February 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 17, 22 & 23
at the Barlow Community Center in Hudson. Reservations can be made by
calling 330-655-8522, with advance sale tickets available at The Learned Owl
Bookstore on Main St. in Hudson. Curtain times are 8 p.m., with the
