AUDITIONS
The Hudson Players have announced auditions for the comic fable Fools by
Neil Simon. Auditions are to be held at The Barlow Community Center on
Oviatt St in Hudson, March 10 & 11 at 7:30 p.m. Needed are 7 males and 3
females. Performance dates are scheduled for May 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 & 18.
Perusal Scripts are available at the Hudson Library. Additional information
is available by calling 330-655-8522. Anyone interested in serving on the
set or backstage crew is also encouraged to attend or contact the group with
their area of interest. Fools is replacing I Hate Hamlet in the Hudson
Players 2001-2002 Season due to rights restrictions.

Directed by Peter Young, the play (written in 1981) is based on the Jewish
fable "The Wise Men of Chelm." It tells the tale of a fledgling
schoolmaster, Leon, in 19th century Russia who finds that his first post is
in a village where, due to an ancient curse, stupidity is a way of life.
For these good-natured, loopy villagers, opening doors is always a new
challenge, time and direction are iffy concepts, lost sheep are expected to
write home, flowers are sold as fish and cows are turned belly up in order
to provide cream on tap (only mentioned, not seen).

Before teacher Leon can beat a hasty retreat, he falls for the lovely but
dim Sophia. A descendant of the woman responsible for the curse--she spurned
a jealous nobleman--Sophia has just mastered the art of sitting in a chair.

Leon decides to stay, win Sophia and restore the villagers' wandering wits.
Two complications: He has only one day before the curse claims him too, and
the last descendant of the spurned nobleman, Count Gregor, lords it over his
silly subjects and lusts after Sophia himself. The show promises great fun
for all involved!

The Hudson Players are members of the Ohio Community Theatre Association,
The American Association of Community Theaters and the Hudson Chamber of
Commerce and have been entertaining area audiences for over 57 seasons as a
non-profit community theater organization. They are one of Ohio's longest
running community theaters.

Also Reminder there still a chance to see the extremely popular A FUNNY
THING HAPPENED...
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, the hilariously funny and
award winning musical by Burt Shevelove, Larry Gelbart and Stephen Sondheim,
is running two more weekends in Hudson with a special 2:00 Matinee being
offered this Sunday.

Directed by Rich Jagunic, Forum tells the story of wily slave and consummate
clown Psuedolus, who tries to win his freedom from his kindly young master
Hero, by bringing Hero together with the girl of his dreams. Throw in a
jealous captain, entertaining eunuchs, some half-baked schemes and a few
mistaken identities and the action keeps rolling as we await the fate on the
heroes. Broad comedy, burlesque humor and clever vaudeville inspired numbers
make this show a perennial favorite.

Reservations can be made by calling 330-655-8522, with advance sale tickets
available at The Learned Owl Bookstore on Main St. in Hudson. Curtain times
are 8 p.m., for the Febrary 15, 16, 22 & 23 performances, and at 2 p.m. for
the February 17 performance. Tickets are $10 with group, student and senior
citizen discounts available. All performances are held at the Barlow
Community Center on Oviatt St. in Hudson.
