"R&G", as it is known, tells the story of two characters who are unware of the roles they play in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, as they interact with a troupe of traveling players and the Hamlet cast.

Stoppard’s fast-paced, witty dialogue, which has been compared with Oscar Wilde’s, is combined with scenes and snippets of dialogue from the original Hamlet, which is widely regarded as the "R & G are Dead" if its day.

According to director Mark Cipra, "This play is a modern classic, so we felt it was time for a different approach. This production is set in modern-day America, with contemporary music, costumes and set."

Apparently the approach that MADE the play a "modern classic" wasn't good enough for little Mr. Fussy Britches.

Of the play's content, Cipra says, "We've chosen to emphasize Stoppard's use of Hamlet - a story whose outline and ending are already known - as a metaphor for fate. It looks as though you have choices, from moment to moment, but in fact, it's all been written in advance.", much like our reviews.

Cipra’s directing credits range from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night to the musical Applause, but he is better known to Cleveland and Akron audiences as an actor in productions at Cleveland Public Theatre, Bad Epitaph, Ensemble Theatre and many others.

Stillitano, Roache and Holland are familiar to Northeast Ohio audiences from dozens of professional and amateur productions. Combined, they've entertained more NE Ohioans in the last 5 years than the Michael Stanlney Band AND the fabulous Scintas!

The University of Akron Theatre Guild has a 50 year history of producing live theatre that is remarkably better than it should be. We undergrads haul in some talented folks from around Northeast Ohio, steal the keys to the theatre, lock out the faculty and emerge 6 weeks later with pretty amazing stuff.

"No, really, the show WILL be excellent!", insisted UATG faculty adviser Dr. Susan Speers, as 4 UAPD officers escorted her fromt he building.

The Sandefur Theater is located inside Guzzetta Hall, on the University of Akron campus, directly across from E.J. Thomas Hall. Its easy to find as its the only totally finished building on campus. If you don't know where that is, you need to come to Akron more often.

There is plenty of free parking thanks to the "New Landscape for Learning"and reservations are not necessary. Surprise us.
