The Rainbow Repertory Company will premiere an original drama, =
'HYPATHIA', on March 22 at 8 p.m. in the main auditorium of Kent State =
University - Stark Campus. The play tells the story of Hypathia, a woman =
born far ahead of her time. Playwright, Bill Shankle, states, "Once you =
meet Hypathia, you will never forget her! She was born in 370 C. E. and =
was the last curator of the library in Alexandria--a position unheard of =
at that time for a woman. Her life stories, filled with adventure and =
intrigue, would be told today in exciting features on our nightly news =
programs." =20

Hypathia will be played by Deborah Handlin Salberg, who also designed =
and constructed the original costuming for the play. Also cast are =
Joseph Ledford as Cyril, the Archbishop of Alexandria, Rick Montgomery =
as Orestes, a Roman Prefect and Sean Posey. "People of all ages will =
come to love Hypathia, as I do," Salberg adds, "as her quick wit and =
intelligence has her sparring with her enemy, Cyril, while conspiring =
with her confidant, Orestes. Hypathia taught her students all the =
sciences, but is especially noted as the woman who added most to the =
world of mathematics. If Hypathia was alive today, she would be listed =
as one of the world's most influential people! She's a wonderful role =
model for women of all ages." Sean Posey, playing Hypathia's student, =
is also a current student at Kent State University. He adds, "This play =
taught me more about the world we live in today, than any course I have =
ever had in school!"

'HYPATHIA' will become part of the permanent repertoire of the Rainbow =
Repertory Company. Director, Lois DiGiacomo, states, "Hypathia brings a =
history, lost to most of us, alive in an extremely entertaining way--a =
history essential for all of us to know in our current world situation. =
This play is also extremely important for students, middle school =
through college levels. We will tour with it year round."

Call 330.966.9440 for tickets, adults $8 - students $6 - group rates are =
available. Touring dates may also be scheduled at this time. =20
