AWARD PRESENTATION
MIFC KICK-OFF FILM

THE YEAR THAT TREMBLED - World Premiere
Directed by Jay Craven

The Vietnam draft hangs over thoughtful Casey, idealistic lawyer Charlie,
his wife Helen, antiwar protester Judy, their hippie cohort Hairball, and
other friends, family and allies in the pastoral town of Chestnut Falls,
Ohio, as the months from spring 1970 until 1971 irrevocably alter their
lives. While Kent State, Nixon, Agnew, Hendrix, King and Kennedy figure into
this time period, THE YEAR THAT TREMBLED is less a sweeping historical
pageant than an album of relationships, irony and regret at the sunset of
the Age of Aquarius. This elegiac adaptation of the novel by local writer
Scott Lax was shot locally on location last year.

Preceding the film, the winner of the 2002 Midwest Independent Filmmaker of
the Year Award will be announced. This award is given annually in
recognition of outstanding accomplishments and contributions to independent
filmmaking by a Midwest filmmaker. A prize of $1,000 worth of film stock is
awarded to the winner. Sponsored by Kodak

moves back under their widowed father's roof after an absence of two years,
the girl perceives suspicious, ulterior motives in his return. And Paige
plans accordingly, to protect her loved ones. But is she acting on fact, or

aren't there?
