A reminder from The Repertory Project:

Monday, February 25th The Repertory Project will hold a master class taught
by José Luis Bustamante, Artistic Co-Director, Sharir + Bustamante
Danceworks, Associate Professor/Dance Program Coordinator, Austin Community
College.

Class will be held at Cleveland City Dance, 13947 Cedar Road in South
Euclid, from 9:00 a.m.-10:30a.m.  The class is $10, and is open to the

José Luis Bustamante is Artistic Co-Director of Sharir + Bustamante
Danceworks. Originally from Mexico, José received a Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree in Communication Sciences from the Instituto Technologico y de
Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. He has choreographed for various companies
in Mexico, including Sunny Cigarroa's Impulso Ballet Company and was one of
five finalists in the 1986 Dance Umbrella Workouts choreography competition.
His piece, Roks, was selected as a finalist at the American College Dance
Festival that same year. During the summer of 1989, José traveled to France
as one of ten young American choreographers selected nationwide to
participate in the American Dance Festival's Franco-American exchange
program in celebration of France's bicentennial. He was one of three
national finalists for the Dewar's Profile Performance Arts Awards for
choreography and performed his work, Sedition, Seduction, in the competition
finals in New York City in October 1991. In 1992, José completed an
eight-week choreography residency at The Yard in Martha's Vineyard,
Massachusetts, premiering his work there and in New York City. In 1993, he
received a New Forms Regional Initiative Grant with performance artist Sally
Jacques, as well as prestigious Choreographer Fellowships from the National
Endowment for the Arts in 1993, 1994 and 1995. Ballet Austin and The
Repertory Project have commissioned his work. Additionally he has been a
guest choreographer and teacher at Cleveland State University. José's work
was selected for the 1996 Suzanne Dellal International Dance Competition in
Tel Aviv, Israel, the 1997 International Computer Music Festival in Greece
and ACARTE 1997 in Lisbon, Portugal. In 1999, José taught at Dance Alloy's
Summer Dance Workshop in Pittsburgh and served as a panelist for the
National Endowment for the Arts. He is currently the Associate
Professor/Dance Program coordinator at Austin Community College and serving
on the Dance Panel for the Pew Charitable Trusts and the Philadelphia Dance
Alliance.
