FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
DANCE MAJORS STRUT THEIR STUFF IN EXPRESSIONS
Student Dance Festival is one of Kent State=92s most diverse performances
Kent, OH =96 Kent State University=92s School of Theatre & Dance will be holding
Student Dance Festival 2002: Expressions, March 15, 16, and 17, 2002. The
student directed and choreographed concert will be held in Wright-Curtis
Theatre of the Music and Speech building at 8:00 PM with a matinee performance
Sunday at 2:30PM.
Erin Posanti=92s Honey, demonstrates the natural attitude, style, and enjoyment
that comes along with Jazz dance. Her smooth, relaxed yet appealing
choreography captivates the individuality of each dancer.
One Minute Until Recess, choreographed by Stephanie Rimstidt, is modern dance
with comedy based on the rubber ducky song in the German language. The
choreography brings out the inner child of the dancers and hopes to bring out
the inner child of the audience. Her solo performance, =85but still=85, shares the
relationship between two people through her light, carefree, jazz movements.
The emotional feeling of a loved one is illustrated through the lyrical-modern
choreography of Jason Cohen=92s Waiting. The soft flow of his movement
demonstrates just how unforgettable the touch of a loved one can feel.
Under the Wire, choreographed by Koren Amonette, examines how uncomfortable a
woman can feel following an unforgiving act of violence. Going from
uncomfortable to comfortable is shown through the introverted movement that
then develops into the openness and willingness of a woman=92s security.
The intense, strong, empowerment of Abby Zarych=92s choreography for Tension is
a collaboration of dancers and the use of therabands, a dancer=92s exercise
band. This piece demonstrates how the use of objects can broaden a
choreographers ideas and concepts.
Feelin=92 the Rhythm, choreographed by Emily Patterson, is about dancing with an
attitude and showing the individuality of the dancers even when movement is in
unison. This hip-hop choreography shares the excitement of the high-spirit
that comes along with this style of dance.
