Presents AS BEES IN HONEY DROWN
A Smart, Sassy Satire

    (March 19, 2002, Akron, Ohio...For Immediate Release) Weathervane=20
Playhouse presents As Bees in Honey Drown, a smart, sassy, contemporary=20
satire for adult audiences by Douglas Carter Beane. The play will run April=20
10 - 28, 2002, Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30=20
p.m. (The production will have two low-cost PREVIEW performances on Wednesda=
y=20
& Thursday, April 10 & 11.  Official opening night is Friday, April 12.)
    The play maps the encounters of a giddy socialite and the young novelist=
=20
she drafts to turn her life into a screenplay. The very soul of showy,=20
artificial sophistication, Alexa Vere de Vere would seem to be the passport=20
to a glamorous world where everything exists purely and happily on the=20
surface.  For Even Wyler, who has just published a novel and received his=20
first taste of fame, Alexa is the ultimate incarnation of where the road to=20
success should lead.  After she buys him an expensive suit, he's soon caught=
=20
up in her freewheeling lifestyle which loosens his inhibitions as a writer=20
and a person. =20
    This production is directed by Tony Sias, who directed our production of=
=20
Mr. Rickey Calls a Meeting last season.  Weathervane thanks the John A.=20
McAlonan Fund of the Akron Community Foundation for its support of our Guest=
=20
Artist Program through which we welcome Tony Sias as Director for this=20
production.  Sias is on the theatre faculty at Cuyahoga Community College,=20
Metro Campus and is the Administrator of Dance, Theatre and Drama for the=20
Cleveland Municipal School District.
