DIRECTOR+ACTOR=COLLABORATION class from the Ohio Independent Film Fest
For Immediate Release: April 1, 2002
Contact: Annetta Marion or Bernadette Gillota, Co-Artistic &
Executive Directors, (216) 651-7315
Cleveland, Ohio: DIRECTOR+ACTOR=COLLABORATION, a hands-on class for
filmmakers and actors, is a unique offering in the Greater Cleveland
area and specifically focused on the crucial director/actor
relationship and collaboration. Overall purposes of the class: (1)
How filmmakers can work with actors to obtain desired results; how
directors can use the acting process to enhance the theme of their
work. (2) How actors can jump into any moment in a scene and do it
more truthfully.
DIRECTOR+ACTOR=COLLABORATION explores the crucial actor/director
relationship in a safe and positive environment. Actors and
filmmakers will work in harmony to discover the essence of each
scene. A common language will be taught and this will allow those on
both sides of the camera to better understand each other quickly and
effectively. Students will explore conflict, character, mood, and
action keeping in mind the thematic, visual, sensory and rhythmic
elements as they break down each scene. Character development
(including knowledge and wants) and improvisational skills will be
heightened as well as the understanding of the mise en scene (the
main point). Students may bring in their own scenes if they wish, and
additional scenes will be available as well. Class assignments will
include work on nomenclature, body center, silent beats, 1-2 line
beats, clear beginning/middle/end, and a small scripted scene. Be
prepared to take notes, receive handouts and move (dress comfortably).

West 65th St.)
