Near West Theatre Kicks off 25th Season with Evita =20
Near West Theatre kicks off its 25th anniversary season with Evita, Andre=
w Lloyd Webber=E2=80=99s rock opera, on Friday, May 3. Following a pre-s=
how party beginning at 5:30 p.m., SoftRock 102.1 WDOK=E2=80=99s news dire=
ctor, Jim McIntyre, makes a cameo appearance in Evita on opening night on=
ly. General admission tickets are always $5. A special opening-night tick=
et price of $25 includes entertainment and refreshments before the show, =
as well as admission to the performance.
All evening shows begin at 7:30. Tickets are always $5. Evita runs May 3-=
4; 9-11; and 16-19 with one Sunday performance only.
The special opening night events include music and dancing by Timmy Tango=
and groups from El Barrio and Escuela Popular. =20
All performances are at St. Pat=E2=80=99s Club Building, 3606 Bridge Ave.=
in Ohio City (W. 38th & Bridge) and include free parking. The Sunday mat=

Founded as a summer youth theatre to combat substance abuse and violence =
in Cleveland=E2=80=99s oldest inner-city west side neighborhood, NWT has =
a unique identity as a grassroots theatre with a social service mission t=
hat regularly produces professionally directed musical theatre with casts=
comprised of 35 to 65 people. =20
After 25 seasons, NWT continues to instill life skills=E2=80=94such as te=
amwork, critical thinking and hands-on performance and technical training=
=E2=80=94in the hundreds of cast and crew members served each year. =20
Through intergenerational casts, crews and audiences, NWT has a long trad=
ition of providing an outlet in which youth and adults can view each othe=
r in a positive light. Expectations of responsibility, accountability, di=

ividuals who come through the doors.
