The Repertory Project Presents

Encounters

a modern dance concert

May 17-18, 2002 8:00 p.m.

May 19, 2002 3:00 p.m.

May 17-19 The Repertory Project, a different dance company, will conclude
their 2001-2002 performance season with Encounters at the Cuyahoga Community
College Metro Campus Theatre, located near the corner of East 30th and
Woodland Avenue in Cleveland. Of our February 2002 performance Awakening,
Plain Dealer dance critic Wilma Salisbury wrote, “The Repertory Project rose
to a high level of artistry… the quality of the performance testified to the
passionate commitment of the dancers…” Of our performance at the
2001OhioDance Festival she wrote, “The Repertory Project stole the show...”

Encounters will feature dynamic works by choreographers José Luis
Bustamante, Terry Creach, Juliana May and Molly Shanahan. The first section
of Bustamante’s two-part quartet For Four explores the intimacy and
tenderness of caring relationships. In contrast, the second section is
rhythmic and joyful, with the dancers playfully moving to high-energy music
with light-hearted spontaneity.
Shanahan’s Hive is danced to a live score of speaking, singing
and drumming. The piece’s highly physical movement suggests the athletic
intensity of bees.

Audiences will be treated to two Cleveland/Repertory Project premieres at
this performance; Rough House by Terry Creach, and Pedestrian Crossing, by
Juliana May. Rough House is set to an original score composed and performed
by Robert Een with Hearn Gadbois, Carter Burwell, Tim Hill, and Nina Mankin.
The multi-layered movements mirror the complexity often seen in every day
human relationships. In Pedestrian Crossing, a sextet danced to Philip Glass
’s Songs from the Trilogy, the dancers’ flowing gestures illuminate ordinary
movement as an art form.

For tickets and information call 216.397.3757 or visit
www.repertoryproject.org. General Admission is $12 advance/$15 day of show,
Students & Seniors (with valid ID) $10 advance/$13 day of show. All credit
card transactions are subject to a processing fee.
