NATIONAL CALL FOR ACTORS
Seven Plus Seven Theatricals presents ...

APRIL TOOL, a new "gay" comedy in three acts by Val Alvaro

A farce-within-a-farce about a dipsomaniacal black "female illusionist"; his white rough-trade male stripper companion; his Hispanic semi-demented former jail mate; his Episcopalian vicar boyfriend; and First Ladies on Parade

CAST BREAKDOWN

ORRY (aka Eddie, aka Drambuie) (lead): An African American would-be female impersonator in his mid 40s. Big man, very tall, over six feet. Not at all feminine in appearance, but he can act very feminine when he wants to. He can be very much the ghetto tough one minute, and like a movie queen or a schoolmarm the next. Lean; well-built; strong physically, and looks it. Scantily clad through much of the play. Must be very verbal, have a razor sharp sense for comedic timing, and able to switch from one "personna" to another in the blink of an eye. Must be able to carry a tune, but need not be a singer.

JACK (lead): Orry's companion of three years. Twenty-six-year-old "bi-sexual" rough trade white male stripper and hustler. Definitely muscular, but need not be "ripped". (He doesn't have the money to spend hours each day in the gym.) Prides himself on his round, bodybuilder butt; good looking if a bit unkempt; about 5'9"; light hair preferred, but not required. Brief full nudity on a couple of occasions. He's a gruff, monosyllabic stud much of the time, but not without his boyish and vulnerable moments. Must be able to carry a tune, but need not be a singer--although a sweet tenor voice would be a plus.

HECTOR (lead): Jack's former jail cell mate, recently out of a mental hospital. Hispanic; 30; small, thin build; long hair preferred, but not required. Brief full nudity; scantily clad through much of the play. Must have excellent comedic timing; Hispanic accent; a good ear for pronouncing Spanish phrases and slipping into "Spanglish." Must be able to carry a tune, but need not be a singer.

ORRY'S MOTHER (supporting): Sixty-six-year-old African American woman. Very salty tongue, but a God-fearing church lady. Younger actresses will be considered, but must be convincing. White actresses will be considered--no black face. African American men (middle-aged) will be considered. And yes, 66-year-old African American women will be considered!

VICAR MURLAND PLUGG (supporting): Episcopalian man of the cloth; mid 50s--early 60s; crisply dressed; talks like an Englishman; white hair preferred, or near so.

LIZANNE (between supporting and small role): Jack's former girlfriend. Mid 30s; attractive; Ellen DeGeneres look; a professional comedienne; former drug addict; a mother; newly Lesbian.

FAYE CARR (small role): Late 30s--40s--early 50s. Very lacquered, well put together talk show host.

REX (small role): Teen-aged boy, 14. A spoiled brat. (Actor must be 18+) This actor would also do a small walk on.

TWO POLICE OFFICERS (small roles): One male and one manly looking female.

Actors should bring a brief comedic monologue if they have one prepared; and they will cold read from the script.

THE PRODUCTION: April Tool is scheduled to appear in the Seattle Fringe Festival, performing the last two weeks in September, for a probable total of 11 performances. Rehearsals will commence as soon as the cast is assembled, and will be most time demanding mid-July to opening. Each actor will be paid a fee at the end of the production.

THE AUDITION: Auditions are now being scheduled by appointment for Friday, June 7, 6:30pm to 9:30pm. They will be at 15 minute intervals, (6:30, 6:45, etc.) with the last time slot starting at 9:15pm. If you wish to audition, please send your resume by e-mail (without a picture is okay) to sevenplusseventheatricals at yahoo.com Please write what role or roles you wish to read for, and give a first and second choice of time, spaced reasonably apart. (Do bring a paper picture and resume to the audition.) If your first choice time slot can be met, you will not be contacted. You will be contacted if we need to put you in your second choice time slot, or work out a third. If you are unable to e-mail, you can call 206/328-3686 with your name, role of interest, phone number, and first and second choice of time slot. As with e-mail, you will called back only if your first choice cannot be met. If you wish to audition but cannot attend at all on June 7, e-mail your resume anyway. You will be contacted about a near-future second audition date. If you plan to attend the Fringe general auditions June 8, a representative from Seven Plus Seven will most likely be there, but it's not definite. If you must cancel, please let us know as early as possible.

WHERE: Auditions will be held at Pilgrims Church, Capitol Hill, Broadway at Republican. If the entrance on Broadway is not open, go around the corner to the entrance at 10th and Republican.

Thank you!
