IN THE HEART RISING        =20
by Margaret Lynch, directed by Seth Gordon

About her play, Margaret says, "As a writer, I am interested in how the=20
lessons of the past are transmitted through generations. In The Heart Rising=
,=20
a young Irish couple marries and immigrates to America; in order to encompas=
s=20
the sweep of generations, times and places, The Heart Rising unfolds as a=20
series of "snapshot" vignettes from key moments in the family's lives. It's=
=20
a legend from Ireland's heroic past=96the story of Grace O'Malley, a 16th=20
century "Pirate Queen"--that resonates in various ways with the decisions=20
that the characters must make in much more straightened and seemingly less=20
heroic circumstances. The stories from the past convey the spirit that=20
sustains the family despite their losses. =20
