The Hudson Players have announced their 2002-2003 Theatre Season marking =
their 58th year of offering quality theatre to the Hudson area. They =
will open with a production of the popular and hysterically funny comedy =
Dearly Departed, followed by a production of the current Broadway smash =
hit musical Into The Woods, and finishing with the Alan Ayckbourn =
time-traveling comedy thriller Communicating Doors. [Note: Interested =
directors for Into the Woods and Communicating Doors are still being =
sought and should respond via email with their show preference and =
experience.]
=20

"We feel it's an exceptionally strong season," comments Michael Pitt, =
Hudson Players play reading chair. "Each show brings its own strengths. =
I don't think there is a funnier comedy than Dearly Departed. Into The =
Woods is an intelligent and fun musical, and Communicating Doors is just =
high quality contemporary theatre. We feel together they offer a season =
that excels in its variety. Audiences should enjoy them all as we =
continue our efforts to provide professional quality shows in a =
community theater environment."

=20

Season tickets are encouraged and are available by calling 330-655-8522. =
Any corporations or community groups interested in sponsoring a =
production or arranging a group outing are encouraged to call as well. =
All shows will be presented at The Barlow Community Center on Oviatt =
Street in Hudson, which has recently undergone a variety of renovations =
in conjunction with the city and The Hudson Players. Audition and =

=20

needed. Interested individuals can either call 330-655-8522, come to the =
general meeting or attend auditions and sign up for their areas of =
interest.=20

=20

Dearly Departed by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones, tells the story of =
the dysfunctional Southern clan, the Turpins, as they cope with Daddy's =
death. The struggle to get him buried involves the whole family and runs =
into Ray-Bud's drinking, Junior's trouble with family and finances (not =
to mention his automated parking lot cleaner), sister Delightful's =
one-note response to trouble, and much, much more. As the NY Daily News =
said "Dearly Departed is drop dead funny."

=20

Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, blends five of =
Grimms' famous fairly tales with an original story of a childless Baker =
and his Wife, who attempt to reverse a curse on their family in order to =
have a child. The show features the stories of Cinderella, Rapunzel, =
Little Red Riding Hood and Jack the Giant Killer as it explores what =
happens after the "happily ever after." Into the Woods is the winner of =
numerous Tony awards as well as the Drama Critics Circle Award for Best =
Musical and the 2002 Drama Desk Award for Best Musical Revival.=20

=20

Communicating Doors is a mystery-thriller-comedy in which time travel =
plays an important role. It begins with Ms. Poopay Dayseer, a specialist =
sexual consultant who unexpectedly finds herself enmeshed in some very =
dangerous business. One man wants to kill her, another wants to confess =
to multiple murders,, and to top it all off, the 'communicating door' =
between hotel rooms is actually a portal through time. Now she's dealing =
with a murderer lurking in the past as well as one in the future, past =
wives who are unaware they are about to be murdered, overzealous hotel =
security guards and old men who are also young, forcing her to help =
solve the mystery to save her life. All combine to make what Time =
magazine calls "a clever and finally quite moving work."

Prior to the kick off of their 2002-2003 season, The Hudson Players are =
presenting the First Annual Hudson Community Talent Show. Auditions are =
August 25 & 26, with performances being held the weekend of September =
13. More information is available by calling 330-655-8522.

=20

"Our theatre has grown and so has the responsibility we feel to offering =
the Hudson area a high quality theater experience," said Gary Maher, =
Hudson Players board member. "We've been around 58 years and have =
touched a lot of people. We are a theater tradition in Hudson and wish =
to work to continue being so. We look forward to the support we have =
come to know from our audiences and the community in general"

=20

The Hudson Players are members of the Ohio Community Theatre =
Association, The American Association of Community Theaters and the =
Hudson Chamber of Commerce and have been entertaining area audiences for =
over 57 seasons as a non-profit, civic minded, community theater =
organization. They are one of Ohio's longest running community theatres.
