Remember the Alamo?

You probably don't, but Academy Award-winning screenwriter Stephen Gaghan wants to change all that. Scribe has
signed on to pen a high-profile rewrite for Ron Howard's upcoming period pic, "The Alamo," at Disney. Pic is expected
to be Ron Howard's next, and is being produced by Howard and Brian Grazer's U-based Imagine Entertainment.

Pic would reteam the Oscar-heavy team behind "A Beautiful Mind" in Howard, Grazer and Russell Crowe.

Crowe will be one of the ensemble cast of "Alamo." Though neither Grazer, Howard nor Crowe's deals are closed, all
three parties are negotiating with the studio for a potential December start to lens on location in Texas -- contingent on the script being locked. Disney senior VP Jason Reed will supervise its production.

Originally penned by John Sayles, "Alamo" was at one time aiming for as early as a September start, though script
delays and actor availability are understood to have played some role in the date change.

"Alamo" is expected to deal with many of the historical complexities --including the Mexican point of view -- that were glossed over in John Wayne's 1960 film. Alamo heroes William Barret Travis' serial marital infidelities, Jim Bowie's slave trading and Davy Crockett's overall political incorrectness will also be addressed.

Gaghan, repped by the William Morris Agency and managers at Anonymous Content, won best screenplay Oscar in
2001 for "Traffic," and most recently made his directorial debut for Paramount Pictures on the Katie Holmes' starrer
"Abandon."

SO FOCUSED and STILL makin' things happen!
