Festival Known for Diversity in Film Holds Fundraising Event
July 15, 2002 (Cleveland, Ohio) - If diversity is the spice of life,
then diverse cinema gives us a glimpse into many of those life's
spices. Through the eclectic program offerings from the Ohio
Independent Film Festival, local audiences have been exposed to
independent films and ideas not readily available through traditional
movie venues.
Over the past nine years, the Ohio Independent Film Festival has
worked to expose the community to a variety of different voices,
whether artistic, political, or sexual orientation, through
independent films.
In celebration of the organization's commitment to both independent
cinema and thought, the Ohio Independent Film Festival is throwing
Summer Crush at the Grid-n-Orbit dance club (located at 1437 St.
Clair Avenue), on Tuesday, July 30th starting at 6pm. Along with
dance music spun by six DJ's, free appetizers, drinks, and visual
stimulation from action sport-themed videos, the film festival will
unveil a new look and revitalized sense of purpose. Under the new
name, Independent Pictures, the organization will continue to not
only screen innovative works in the form of an annual festival, but
also aid emerging filmmakers from the area with production resources
and workshops to help them better their skills.
If you have not yet had a chance to check Cleveland's newest and
largest dance club, here is your chance. Come and mingle with some of
Cleveland's numerous lovers and producers of independent cinema as
well as representatives from the office of Stephanie Tubbs Jones,
Beverly Charles and Nicole Williams and from the office of Mayor Jane
Campbell, Chief Development Officer, Tim Mueller.
Tickets for the event are $25 each which includes a door prize entry.
All proceeds will benefit Independent Pictures as it is hoping to
raise $20,000 to help with the continuation of the Ohio Independent
Film Festival and Market, ScriptMill, the Ohio Independent Screenplay
Awards, Film Training Programs and more. Tickets are available at
www.ticketweb.com or call the Independent Pictures office at (216)
651-7315.
The event is made possible with the supports from Borders Book &
Music, Bo Loong Chinese Restaurant, Calvin Klein, Cleveland Food CO-
OP, Crescit Software, First College Cleveland State University, Grand
Poo-Bas Record Shoppe, JakPrints, Lapis Business Solutions, Media
Design Imaging, Inc., Meckler Foundation, Inc., Grid-n-Orbit Dance
Club, Rocky River Fitness Kickboxing, Susie Frazier and Tim Mueller.
