ENSEMBLE THEATRE 2002-2003 SEASON

Cleveland Hts., OH, July 11 - Artistic Director Lucia Colombi announced
today Ensemble Theatre's 23rd season, which runs from October 18, 2002
through May 25, 2003 and includes four Cleveland premieres.

The Shape of Things, Neil LaBute's provocative drama about how far a shy,
young man will go for love, launches the season in October, followed by
Jerry Sterner's award-winning Other People's Money, a comedic drama about a
corporate raider. Next in the season's line up are: Kristine Thatcher's
Voice of Good Hope about the life of African American Congresswoman Barbara
Jordan, and Athol Fugard's Sorrows and Rejoicings, a story that delves into
the problems of peace and memories in post-Apartheid South Africa. The new
season concludes with Edward Albee's Pulitzer Prize- winning Three Tall
Women.

Local master storytellers Dorothy and Reuben Silver will help kick off the
new season with special benefit performances on October 11, 12, and 13 of
Laughter in Three Languages: Yiddish, English & "Yinglish," to provide
financial support to the Ensemble Theatre.

Ensemble Theatre's 2002-2003 Season includes:

THE SHAPE OF THINGS, BY NEIL LABUTE
A Cleveland Premiere
Directed by Charles Kartali
October 18 - November 3, 2002 (Preview October 17)
Press Opening: October 18, 2002

Regarded as one of the best new playwrights to emerge in the past decade,
Neil LaBute explores the ever-changing relationship between Adam, an
insecure young man and Evelyn, a seductive but demanding fine arts major, in
his Off-Broadway hit The Shape of Things. Adam's transformation and the
lengths to which he goes to retain Evelyn's affections drive this
provocative play to a surprise ending.

OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY, BY JERRY STERNER
Directed by Lucia Colombi
November 22 - December 8, 2002 (Preview November 21)
Press Opening: November 22, 2002

Winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award for best Off-Broadway Play, Jerry
Sterner's Other People's Money takes a sometimes humorous and sometimes
serious look at the takeover of a failing yet proud New England
manufacturer. Is the corporate raider a creature from the Black Lagoon of
capitalism, or a realist who saves a business from itself?

VOICE OF GOOD HOPE, BY KRISTINE THATCHER
A Cleveland Premiere
Directed by Lucia Colombi
January 17 - February 9, 2003 (Preview January 16)
Press Opening: January 17, 2003

Kristine Thatcher's A Voice of Good Hope depicts the pivotal moments in the
remarkable life of Congresswoman Barbara Jordan. Awarded the Presidential
Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton in 1994, Barbara Jordan was a
tireless crusader for civil rights and the first Black woman from the South
elected to Congress.

SORROWS AND REJOICINGS, BY ATHOL FUGARD
A Cleveland Premiere
Directed by Licia Colombi
February 28 - March 16, 2003 (Preview February 27)
Press Opening: February 28, 2003

South African Playwright Athol Fugard's Sorrows and Rejoicings explores
post-apartheid South Africa through two women -- one white, the other
black -- whose common bond is their love of an exiled poet. Fugard is
famous as a campaigning dramatist, tackling the issues of apartheid.
Sorrows and Rejoicings premiered in May 2001 in Princeton, New Jersey, and
was directed by Fugard himself.

THE CREDEAUX CANVAS, BY KEITH BUNIN
A Cleveland Premiere
Directed by Lucia Colombi
April 4 - 19, 2003 (Preview April 3)
Press Opening: April 4, 2003

The Credeaux Canvas by Keith Bunin premiered in New York City in May 2001 at
Playwrights Horizons. It's a poignant story about three young New York
dreamers who devise a reckless get-rich-quick scheme to jump-start their
lives. But when their forged Impressionist painting is revealed to be a
fake, their lives are forever changed. Named by New York Magazine as "one
of the best plays of 2001," The Credeaux Canvas has been making waves since
its début on the American theatre scene -- the play's nude scene
notwithstanding.

THREE TALL WOMEN, BY EDWARD ALBEE
Directed by Sonya Robbins
May 9 - 25, 2003 (Preview May 8)
Press Opening: May 9, 2003

Winner of the 1994 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Edward Albee's Three Tall Women
is a powerful play depicting the inevitable decline of an old woman's life
through two conventions; first, as a study of her final senility, and
second, as a discussion between the old woman and two versions of her
younger self. Classic Albee!

Subscriptions for the 2002-2003 season are on sale now and range from $76 to
$96 for a six-play subscription to $40 to $50 for a three-play subscription.

encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment
for all Ohioans.

Program Building Arts' Strength in Cleveland, and The George Gund
Foundation.
