Theater List: Perhaps some on this list already know about fathom.com, an
education website comprised of many leading universities and cultural
organizations from around the world. The institutions agree to make
education materials available, sometimes at no cost. The following is a
film screenwriting class, offered by the British Film Institute.

The British Film Institute (www.bfi.org.uk) announced the results of its Top
Ten Poll this month, a survey of the best films of all time as judged by the
world's leading film critics and directors. This year's was the largest poll
to date, including contributions from 145 film critics, writers and
academics, as well as 108 film directors. What makes a great film? Most
would agree that it starts with a good story. "The Basics of Screenwriting,"
a new free seminar from the American Film Institute, explains the
fundamentals of creating an effective premise, compelling characters, and
story structure; as well as tips for starting a script and discussion forums
to share your experiences: http://www.fathom.com/course/21701762/1070
Meanwhile here in America:
Tom Hanks: In His Own Words In this feature from the American Film
Institute, Tom Hanks discusses his career--both on and off the set--from his
early childhood through each of his most memorable performances: "In high
school, I saw friends in the fall play and couldn't believe something so
much fun was being done in school..." (I suppose hell reference his time at
the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival at some point).
