The Kent State University Student Center and Kent Dance Association will
be hosting a residency by Comic monologue/dance artist CLAIRE PORTER on
Sunday and Monday, October 20-21. Known for her humorous one-woman
interpretations of such characters as Fund-Raisers, Meteorologists, and
University Professors, among others, Ms. Porter will confront the world
of the normal and take it for a ride into the absurd, funny and
touching. This time the actress, writer, dancer, humorist takes her
audiences on an innerspace journey into muscles.

In her newest work, NAMELY, MUSCLES, Ms. Porter portrays Dr. Nickie
Nom, Forensic Orthopedic Autopsy Muscular Anatomical Surgical Specialist
(for the county) giving a reading from her new book of poems, NAMELY, MUSCLES.
Her 30 plus poems enact 68 major muscles of the body and then
some.

Sally Sommer in the Village Voice wrote, =94Porter, mistress of the
short, sharp character portrait, is that rare breed - a nimble, witty
comedian. A soloist with a neat collection of personas, Porter sketches
them with the perfect physical gesture. We know these types ......
Porter is always delightful, often wickedly funny...=94

Claire Porter has appeared in The Town Hall=92s Humor Tracks, tour of
comedy in Germany, LUCYFEST, the Lucille Ball Festival of Comedy, Dance
Theatre Workshop in NYC, and at the prestigious Jacobs Pillow Dance
Festival in Lee, MA . A native of New Britain, CT , Claire has a BA in
Mathematics, an MA in Dance from Ohio State University and has been the
recipient of several awards and commissions including National Endowment
for the Arts Choreography Fellowships.

NAMELY, MUSCLES will be presented at 7:00 PM on Sunday, October 20 at the
Kiva Auditorium adjacent to KSU's Student Center. The event is free and
open to the public on a first come, first served basis. Ms. Porter
will also be conducting workshops for KSU dancers and actors on Monday,
