Neil Zaza's latest project, "One Silent Night..."
Instrumental guitarist Neil Zaza's latest project, "One Silent Night..."
Volumes 1 and 2, finds Neil interpreting holiday classics in a totally
different and unique way. Neil has had the opportunity to put his musical
fingerprint on some favorite Christmas classics.
Sponsored by WMMS, "One Silent Night..." concert premiere lands at the Palace
Theatre at Playhouse Square on December 21. If you are a fan of Rock music,
Classical music, Christmas music, or Orchestral music of any sort, this is
going to really satisfy that musical hunger. Cleveland will be alive and
well on the 21st of December!
WMMS will be broadcasting live from The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and Museum
for the CD release party on Saturday December 7 at 2:00pm. There will be
ticket and CD giveaways, a concert preview, autographs and more.
Four years in the making, this project has evolved though many stages before
it's completion as we hear it today. It began with Tim Bradford, supplying
keyboard and orchestral arrangements via his Kurzweil keyboard. From there,
the band instrumentation (drums, bass, guitar) was added. CIM's Paul Leary
orchestrated the scores for full ensemble while Fred Patterson II prepared
the orchestra for recording.
Neil: "There is nothing like the majestic sound of a live orchestra, it was
the only way to go on this project...the music demands it. It was
magnificent to finally hear these song in all their glory...it was a very
intense and rewarding process."
The comparison to other holiday acts, (such as The Transiberian Orchestra),
are expected because of the kind of material that is being presented, but the
musical direction is different. Neil wanted to specifically stay away from
'pop' sounding holiday staples made electric, and focus more on material that
had more depth, allowing for intense melodies and invertionary chord changes.
The Cleveland Rock Orchestra, live and unplugged gives the material it's
classical roots, while Neil's guitar functions as the voice of the soaring
electric melodies.
