SCT Readies 42nd St.for Opening

With the reemergence of tap dancing as an art form for such groups as
STOMP and Riverdance, the Streetsboro Community Theatre's latest
production will give you an opportunity to see tap dancing production
numbers reminiscent of the Busby Berkley era of Hollywood major
musicals. 42nd St. features favorite musical numbers such as Shuffle
Off to Buffalo, We're In the Money, Lullaby of Broadway and of the
course the title song, 42nd Street, all highlighted by the beat of 56
dancing feet. The dance ensemble in the show, numbering 28, represents
several area studios and have over 300 years of dance experience among
them. They have practiced 3 nights a week and 5 hours each Sunday to
bring the complicated production numbers to life. The directing team of
Becky Summers, Pat Kulow, and Cheryl Rauschenberger, promises that the
level of tap dancing has not been seen on area community theatre stages
before. Tom Wilschutz is producing the show with Lyle Hennicke serving
as the production manager. Cheryl Sage and Jeremy Bright are the
musical directing team while Sheryl Puette will call the show as the
stage manager.

42nd Street will open SCTís 14th season and they are thrilled to be able
to offer this Tony award winning show that is currently playing on
Broadway. This tap dance extravaganza is the timeless story of a girl
hoping to make it on Broadway, only to be fired from her first job in
the chorus. An injury suffered by the leading lady gives her the needed
big break and leads to a fairy tale ending of a brand new star, a
director back on top of his game and love for a leading lady.

The cast is lead by OCTA award winning actor Ron Abbott from Port
Clinton as Julian Marsh, and former Cleveland PM Magazine television
personality and producer Paula Kline-Messner of Aurora as Dorothy
Brock. Two young faces will be making their first major roles: Kelly
Meneer of Stow as Peggy Sawyer and Matt DuMont of Kent as Billy Lawlor.
Kelly has been a principal dancer with the Akron Childrenís Ballet while
Matt is studying for his BFA in musical theatre at Kent State
University.

Performances will begin Friday, November 22 and continue weekends
through December 7. Performances are held at the Streetsboro Municipal
Building, 9184 St. Rt. 43. Ticket prices are $10.00/Adults,
$8.00/Senior Citizens and $7.00/Students. For reservations or more
information, please contact the box office at 330/626-9427.
