Brecksville Theater on the Square Academy
is pleased to announce our
Winter 2003 Curriculum

Brecksville Theater on the Square Academy is a course of study for =
performers including basic courses as well as single-session Master =
classes in technical theater, stage make-up and Movement for Young Men. =
The classes, taught in a fail-safe, fun environment, introduce theater =
arts to the beginner while enriching experienced students. All classes =
are taught by qualified educators and theater professionals and some are =
targeted for adults as well as youth.

Winter classes begin Saturday, January 18 and run through march 1, 2003 =
unless otherwise specified. No classes on February 15. Class sizes are =

Master Class / MOVEMENT FOR YOUNG MEN
Grades: 4 and up
Instructor: Nathan A. Lilly
Time: Two Saturdays, March 8 and 15 ONLY, 9:00-11:00am
Fee: $50/student
Don't skip another audition because you're afraid of the dance call! =
This workshop is designed for young men and is without a doubt, NOT your =
sister's dance class! If you play a sport or an instrument, you can =
dance. Learn the basics of Musical Theater stage movement and more!

Master Class / TECHNICAL THEATER PART II
Grades: 7-ADULT
Instructor: Hadden Hippsley
Time: Saturday, January 18 ONLY, 11:15am-1:15pm
Fee: $30/student
This two hour seminar is a follow-up for students of Technical Theater I =
or those who have technical experience. This class will design and =
provide the light design for our upcoming production of Wonderland!

Master Class / STAGE MAKE-UP
Grades: 7-ADULT
Instructor: Jenn Messina
Time: Saturday, March 1 ONLY, 11:15am-1:15pm
Fee: $30/student plus a materials fee
In this two-hour workshop you'll learn the basics of "street make-up" =
and "stage Make-up", then discover the art of illusion as you learn to =
age your face. We'll add wigs and hats to finish your character, so =
bring a camera to class. This is a good class for parents and children =
to take together, and will help if you're ever called upon to assist =
backstage. Please bring a towel and soap or cold cream with you to =
class. Fee includes a make-up kit to take home with you.

Theater Tots / ACTING OUT
Grades: Preschool
Instructor: Valerie Galbiscek
Time: Saturdays, 9:00-9:45am
Fee: $60/student
Come and join the fun! Using theater games, movement, stories and songs, =
children will explore simple role playing. The class is designed to =
stimulate imagination and celebrate creativity.

Fantasy Factory / LET'S PRETEND
Grades: K-1
Instructor: Michele Cotner
Time: Saturdays, 9:00-9:45am
Fee: $60/student
Students will stretch their imagination through theater games, creative =
dramatics, movement and sensory techniques. Then using hats and props, =
the young actors will be ready to take center stage for the final class!

Stage Stars / WHO AM I?
Grades: 2-3
Instructor: Michele Cotner
Time: Saturdays, 10:00-11:00am
Fee: $70/student
This class takes a fun approach to leaning about characters in a play. =
Using theater games, folk tales and familiar stories, the students will =
learn how to build a character. During the final class students will =
present an improvisation or short play incorporating the characters they =
have created.

Prime Time Players / IMPROVISATION AND THEATER GAMES
Grades: 4-6
Instructor: Catherine E. Phillips
Time: Saturdays, 11:15am-12:15pm
Fee: $70/student
If you like "Whose line is it anyway?" this class is for you. Using =
popular improvisations and theater games, you will learn to think on =
your feet and sharpen your theater skills. Then learn how to apply this =
training to scene studies and script work. This promises to be a fun =
class for beginners as well as more experienced actors.

Broadway Bound / MONOLOGUES AND SCENES
Grades: 7-12
Instructor: Catherine E. Phillips
Time: Saturdays, 10:00-11:00am
Fee: $70/student
Every actor needs a working method and this class will help you develop =
these skills. Learn how to create a character, make good acting choices, =
and make the most of your talent. With a solid technique, you'll be able =
to audition and perform with more confidence. This class is ideal for =
beginners, and will also challenge the seasoned actor.

Broadway Bound / BROADWAY DUETS
Grades: 7-12
Instructor: Bryan Bowser and Bob Burian
Time: Saturdays, 9:00-10:00am
Fee: $85/student
Join Bob and Bryan in exploring the exciting Broadway repertoire for two =
singers. Learn to share the spotlight, blend voices and energize your =
acting in this workshop class. Each student will be paired with a =
classmate and coached on a duet chosen with the pair specifically in =
mind. Over the six weeks we will develop characters and continue to =
strengthen your vocal abilities. Duet pairs will also receive two =
30-minute private coachings.
