Thought there might be some interest in this project - So, we're passing
it on:
Call for Living History Presenters for Ohio Chautauqua 2004
The Ohio Humanities Council is seeking presenters who can portray
historical characters for "Ohio Chautauqua 2004". Presentations will be
costumed performances based on thorough academic research. Qualified
individuals may include academic scholars, teachers, or actors who can
assume the roles of historic figures. Participants are
"scholars-in-residence" for about a week in each of the Ohio Chautauqua
host communities. The Theme for Ohio Chautauqua 2004 will be The
Roaring Twenties. Occurring in June and July, it will feature
scholar/performers portraying characters such as Henry Ford, Amelia
Earhart, W.E.B. DuBois, Al Capone, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Babe Ruth,
Josephine Baker, Harry Houdini, Florence Harding, Elliott Ness, Clarence
Darrow, Zora Neal Hurston, or Charles Lindburgh. Other characters
proposed by applicants will be considered if they are appropriate to the
theme.
A portrayal consists of a 30-minute monologue followed by question
and answer sessions, both in and out of character. Each selected
scholar/performer will also submit an essay, timeline, and bibliography
of sources of information on the character.
During each week as a scholar in residence, a performer will present
one evening performance and two daytime workshops and be available for
appearances at various social and publicity events. Scholars will
receive an honorarium, per diem, and travel and lodging expenses.
Applicants are responsible for developing their own scripts, costumes,
and props.
Applications to portray an Ohio Chautauqua 2004 character must
include:
1. Contact sheet stating name, mailing address, e-mail address, phone
and fax numbers, and the name of the character you wish to portray.
2. Current vita/resume, including acting and research experience
3. 300 word essay and a brief bibliography of sources of information
on your character.
4. 20 minute videotape of yourself portraying your character.
