DOBAMA presents the OHIO PREMIERE of

In the Blood
By Suzan-Lori Parks
Directed by Sonya Robbins
March 7 - 30, 2003

Dobama Theatre proudly presents the Ohio premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning
playwright Suzan-Lori Parks' In The Blood. A modern day riff on The Scarlet
Letter, In The Blood tells the story of a homeless woman and her children
living on the streets. In compelling and stylized dramatic form, we enter a
world where passions are raw, need is profound, success is elusive and
adaptation is necessary. And yet, love exists.

RaSheryl McCreary stars as Hester, La Negrita, an illiterate, homeless
mother of five. The actors who play the adults in Hester’s life double as
her children. The talented cast of adult actors also includes Kevin Brewer
(The Doctor/Trouble), Victor Dickerson (Chilli/Jabber), Renee
Matthews-Jackson (The Welfare Lady/Bully), Anthony Nickerson (Reverend
D./Baby) and Cassandra Vincent (Amiga Gringa/Beauty).

Variety says of In the Blood, “Here and elsewhere, Parks has a voice that
mixes distinctive lyricism with a pungent wit.” CurtainUp says of In the
Blood: “It’s about the world that’s ‘simply here.’ It’s about the eternal
yearning for love. It’s about those who adapt and those who fall between
the cracks. It’s about all of this as filtered through Suzan-Lori Parks’
particular authorial vision of black and white stereotypes.”

In the Blood grapples with many issues in our contemporary world, and Dobama
Theatre intends to engage its audience with several special events
surrounding the play, including talkbacks with the cast, panel discussions,
live music, a special signed performance and a showing of the movie “Girl 6”
(screenwritten by Parks) at the Madstone Centrum. More information on these
events will be announced soon.
