Great Lakes Theater Festival
Seeks Original Music From Students for
Bardstock FM

Great Lakes Theater Festival in partnership with WCPN 90.3 FM Ideastream
invites high school students to become a part of BARDSTOCK FM. Students
currently attending high school in grades 9 – 12 can be a part of this
innovative radio program that features original student music inspired by
William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Shakespeare’s classic tale
of lovers, magic and mischief is given a contemporary spin through the rock,
rap, jazz, folk, hip hop, county, acoustic, classical, blues and other
musical stylings of high school student musicians and bands from across
Northern Ohio. In an hour-long live radio broadcast, WCPN’s award-winning
host Dee Perry will feature the finalist song entries (recorded in WCPN’s
Levenson Recording Studio) and their student creators on the April 23, 2003
edition of Around Noon in celebration of William Shakespeare’s birthday.
BARDSTOCK FM will culminate with the release of a commemorative CD featuring
the finalist song entries.

To participate in BARDSTOCK FM, students must enter in two phases. First
the band or soloist must “pitch” their song idea to Great Lakes Theater
Festival. The pitch must clearly communicate the vision for the song as
well as what element or theme of A Midsummer Night’s Dream served as the
inspiration for the original work. GLTF and WCPN will evaluate the pool of
student entries and recommend several for the next phase of the project –
the submission of the new song.

The deadline to submit a “pitch” to BARDSTOCK FM is Friday, February 28,
2003. To submit a “pitch,” students should request, complete and submit a
BARDSTOCK FM student entry form. An entry form request may be made to GLTF
by mail at: Great Lakes Theater Festival, c/o BARDSTOCK FM, 1501 Euclid
Avenue, Suite 423, Cleveland, Ohio, 44115; via phone at (216) 241-5490 x317
or via email at tkrispinsky at greatlakestheater.org. For more information
about BARDSTOCK FM contact GLTF at (216) 241-5490 x317.

BARDSTOCK FM is part of Awaken the Dream, a series of programming designed
to surround Great Lakes Theater Festival’s upcoming production of William
Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, May 2 – 18, 2003 in the Ohio
Theatre, Playhouse Square.
