GRAND HOTEL
Please come and join our delightful cast of 40 for our Winter Musical, Grand
Hotel. The musical is based on the novel by Vicki Baum with music and lyrics
by Robert Wright and George Forrest. Performances are February 14, 15, 21 and
22 at 8:00PM in the Kennedy Auditorium on the campus of Hawken Upper School at
the corner of Mayfield Road and County Line in Gates Mills.
Grand Hotel, set in Grand Hotel Berlin-the world's most expensive hotel- in
1928. The show features several interwoven stories about the lives of several
guests, who each uniquely, has "time running out" in their own way. The
characters include an aging ballerina whose career and hope for love in her
life is dwindling; her caretaker interested in a more meaningful relationship;
an in debt Baron, who pretends to be rich and is tempted to steal to survive;
an American businessman on the verge of bankruptcy and considering crooked
ways; a desperate young office worker dreaming of Hollywood; a dying man
interested in going out in a flourish; and an omnipresent narrator; a war
veteran now unable to fit in to life.
The show is directed by Pat McCabe with musical direction by Gary Darrow and
technical direction by Dave Glowacki.. The cast features 40 Hawken students
of all ages, with seniors Tom Hull, Hannah Gardner, Jay Needham Jordan Fehr,
Sebastian Orr, Jill Kirk and juniors Laura Kachurek, Abby Marsh and Gwendolyn
Ellis in the lead roles.
