Sounds of Sondheim will be in full bloom
in North Coast Men’s Chorus spring shows

CLEVELAND – Energized by record-setting attendance at its holiday performances in December, the North Coast Men’s Chorus has been sowing the seeds for its spring production – “Everything’s Coming Up Sondheim”. The tribute to Stephen Sondheim will be staged at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 29, and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30 at Cleveland State University’s Waetjen Auditorium.

Perhaps the most influential Broadway composer/lyricist of his generation, Sondheim is responsible for creating some of the most memorable musicals of our time, including Sweeney Todd, Follies and Into the Woods. And, as its custom, NCMC will run the gamut in showcasing his work. Moving ballads (Not While I’m Around, Not a Day Goes By), familiar favorites (Everything’s Coming Up Roses, Send in the Clowns), fabulous farce (Getting Married Today), three dance numbers and a mesmerizing medley from Sunday in the Park With George will be among selections providing more than a modicum of variety.

NCMC’s 15th season began with a bang as more than 1,300 patrons – including a sellout gathering of 750 on Dec. 21, 2002 – enjoyed the chorus’ holiday performances of “We Wish You the Merriest”. In addition, NCMC’s fourth annual “Hearts on Fire: A Musical Valentine”, held Feb. 8 at Wagner’s Country Inn in Westlake, was an unprecedented success. Nearly 150 Valentine revelers enjoyed dinner, dancing and a cabaret show; and thanks in part to a silent auction added to this year’s event, NCMC raised $3,000.

Tickets for “Everything’s Coming Up Sondheim” are $15 in advance, $20 day of show. Call 1-800-766-6048 or visit any NCMC ticket outlet: Body Language, 11424 Lorain Ave., Cleveland; Diverse Universe, 12011 Detroit Ave., Lakewood; High Tide Rock Bottom, 1814 Coventry, Cleveland Hts.; Angel Falls Coffee, 792 W. Market St., Akron. In addition, individual concert tickets are available by logging on to: www.ncmchorus.org

The chorus will conclude its 15th anniversary season with its Pride concert, “Bustin’ Out All Over”, during Cleveland’s Pride Weekend, June 21 and 22.
