Playhouse Square Center presents the films of BUSTER KEATON with live
musical scoring by BLUE GRASSY KNOLL in a one-of-a-kind performance that
perfectly blends audio with visual, April 5th and 6th in the Ohio Theatre.
The hilarious silent films of Buster Keaton - the man Roger Ebert called
"arguably the greatest actor-director in the history of the movies" - come
alive through delightful live orchestration from musical group Blue Grassy
Knoll. Every comedic pratfall and death-defying stunt is blissfully
punctuated by an original musical score - a mix of country, jazz, tango,
with a strain of sadness, a hint of James Bond - that's as lively as it is
melodic. The New York Times hails it as "a show to cheer!" This show is fun
for all ages and perfect for the entire family. Audience participation adds
to the excitement as the Blue Grassy Knoll eggs the audience on to
contribute to the score. Supply the crashes, whistles, and shouts needed to
make the silent film come alive. Walking the line between acoustic parody
and performance, Blue Grassy Knoll is as comedic as they are talented.
Since their first gig in January 1996, they have gained a cult following
throughout Australia (and bits of New Zealand) playing their flat-out foot
stomping gypsy-bluegrass hybrid. As a theatrical high-energy five-piece
troupe, the Blue Grassy Knoll effortlessly dispels the notion that
musicianship and humor don't mix. Blue Grassy Knoll's brilliant live scores
are as notorious as the films they accompany. In recreating the silent
movie experience, the band sits facing the screen and, committing the music
to memory, uses the film itself for their cues, so it literally becomes
their "conductor" - a truly amazing experience to witness. These
performances showcase the versatility and humor of the musicians as they
exude an infectious enthusiasm that enhances these already clever and very
funny movies. For more information, visit www.bluegrassyknoll.com
