The Piece
illuminata dance theater presents g(r)o(w)ing up at Actors' Summit Theater o=

March 28, 29 & 30, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 PM and Sunday at 3:3=

G(r)o(w)ing up is an original dance piece that explores the conflicting role=
s=20
women face in our society.=A0 It explores sexual roles, social rejection,=20
marriage, independence and interdependence.=A0 Set to a collage of music=20
snippets and songs by artists Ani Difranco, Sinead Lohan, Bjork, Diane Reeve=
s=20
and Billy Holiday, the piece is a combination of social commentary, satire,=20
and poetry.=A0 The eighty-minute work is performed without an intermission.=
=A0=20

Performance Dates and Tickets
Ticket prices are $12 regular admission, $8 for students and seniors.=A0 All=

The Company
Julie Goncy co-founded the illuminata dance theater in 1999.=A0 With the=20
company she has performed at First Night Akron, Kent State University, Daum=20
Theater, Actors' Summit Theater, and Cleveland Public Theater.=A0 She gradua=
ted=20
from the University of Akron with a BA in Dance, where she now works as an=20
adjunct professor.=A0 Her dance studies have taken her to London, New York=20
City, and Chicago. Additionally she teaches dance at the Dance Institute of=20
the University of Akron, where she has aided in developing an outreach=20
program with Brecksville Center for the Arts, and at Kae Center in=20
Northfield.=A0=20

Sasha Thackaberry founded the illuminata dance theater in 1999 and has been=20
choreographing and dancing with the company since.=A0 Her BFA in Dance is fr=
om=20
the University of Akron and her MAT is from Kent State University.=A0=20
Previously a member of the Cuyahoga Valley Youth Ballet, she studied dance a=
t=20
BalletMet in Columbus and at Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York=20
City where she performed Paul Taylor's Airs.=A0 She is a licensed teacher wh=
o=20
works at Charles Lake School in the Cleveland Municipal School District=20
teaching dance.=A0 Local choreographic credits include work at Actor's Summi=
t=20
Theater, Western Reserve Academy, St. Vincent, St. Mary's High School, Brusc=
h=20
High School, and for First Night Akron.=A0 Her work has been featured at the=

American College Dance Festival.=20

Rachael Westlake is a founding member of the illuminata dance theater.=A0=
