REMINDER: Dobama Theatre’s Marilyn Bianchi Kids' Playwriting Festival To
Hold Auditions For Actors and Other Talent

KIDS April 21st – Between-Play Talent – By Appointment
- - -
ALL AGES May 4th – Marilyn Bianchi Kids’ Fest Actors – Open Call

The 25th ANNUAL Marilyn Bianchi Kids' Playwriting Festival, to be held June
5-8, 2003 at Dobama Theatre, is holding auditions on two upcoming dates. As
a new feature this year, talented Cuyahoga County kids ages 6 to 18 are
called to a between-play talent audition for the Marilyn Bianchi Kids’ Fest
on Monday, April 21st beginning at 5 p.m. Dobama Theatre will choose a
handful of the best talent to perform between winning plays at the Marilyn
Bianchi Kids’ Fest. Auditions are by appointment and you must call Dobama
Theatre at (216) 932-6838 during business hours to be assigned a reservation
time. Talent may include, but is not limited to: musicians, singers,
dancers, poets, comedians, jugglers and magicians. Please come prepared
with an audition piece no more than two (2) minutes in duration. Your must
be “self-contained” as Dobama will not be able to provide any accompaniment.
No electric equipment may be used.

Dobama is also hosting an open call for actors of all ages to audition on
May 4th for the 25th ANNUAL Marilyn Bianchi Kids’ Fest. Auditions for kids
ages 6 to 14 are from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Auditions for actors 15 and up
will begin at 7 p.m. Actors will be asked to do a cold reading from a
script. Actors must come prepared with a written list of all scheduling
conflicts between May 5th and May 31st, when rehearsals will be taking
place.

Both actors and between-act talent will need to be available for several
rehearsals in May, as well as all day Sunday, June 1st and Sunday, June 8th,
and the evenings of Monday through Saturday, June 2nd-7th. Additional
rehearsal schedules for actors will depend on the number of plays in which
they are cast.

Dobama Theatre’s Artistic Director Joyce Casey says of the festival, “We are
looking forward to the twenty-fifth year of the Marilyn Bianchi Kids’ Fest.
The festival gives us an opportunity to showcase provocative, inspiring and
highly creative original works by kids in our own community.” Every year,
the Marilyn Bianchi Kids' Playwriting Festival at Dobama Theatre, the oldest
festival of its kind in the United States, accepts play submissions from
kids in grades 1-12. The festival is open to all students home-schooled or
enrolled in Cuyahoga County public and private schools. Entries submitted
by students in grades 3-12 closed in late January. Entries from students in
grades 1 and 2 closed in early February. Final play judging will take place
mid-April, and as soon as the winners are notified, Dobama Theatre will
announce the winners to the public. Winners will be honored at the Benefit
Night performance on Thursday, June 5th.
