About the Play:
Set in a beauty salon in rural Louisiana, Steel Magnolias covers three
years in the lives of six women who chat, gossip and reveal their lives to
each other between the shampoo and comb out. Life, death, love, men,
fashion they have something to say about everything. The dialogue is
witty, wise, served up Southern style and reveals the true characters of
the six women.
Life, as these modern Southern belles know, is not always easy, and they
ultimately must deal with tragedy. How they rise to the occasion and cope
with their pain explains why they truly are steel magnolias beautiful and
gentle on the outside, but tough within.
"Although the cast is comprised of women only, this is not a play about
women, but rather about emotions, life, and how we all, men and women
alike, can learn the value of relationships," says Barbara. "Steel
Magnolias teaches us to cherish each of life's moments, the good as well as
the bad."
A sophisticated comedy that's more than a "chick" play, Steel
Magnolias is a perfect way to spend a spring evening.
Sponsored in part by The McDonald Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio and
a gift from the estate of Michael and Doris E. DePaola.
