[NEohioPAL]RE: The Late Fourth Estate?

Well, just to throw in my two cents, I personally think it would be
great if somebody like FOX were to take control of all news and media
programming. After all, with all the bizarre, crazy, and downright
stupid things people are doing these days, we might as well just combine
"reality" TV and the news anyways. I've been hard pressed to tell the
difference these days!

But enough from me, I'd better get back to eating my cow innards and
backing stabbing random people before someone kicks me off the island.

Cheers,
Tom Sawyer

My purpose for sending out the original email was to alert the readers
on the ncgmedia list of the upcoming changes the FCC is planning to
make. I have gathered my info from multiple sources over the past
couple of months, including articles printed in the Plain Dealer, in
more than one Times papers, at a taping of 'Real Time with Bill
Maher'--which, ironically enough, is a resurrection of his original show
that once broadcast on free TV, and the internet. It's a topic that
needs to be discussed; that is why I sent out the email.

I should add a quote from today's copy of the Orlando Sentinel, which
has a front page article on the FCC's staff-recommended changes
circulated by Chairman Michael Powell and the four other commissioners:
(Michael Powell is Colin Powell's son, yes?)

"This is the ultimate in hypocrisy," said Gene Kimmelman, director of
the Washington-based Consumer Union. "There are only a handful of
sources of key local news and information. Yet the commission is
allowing some of the largest broadcasters to combine with the largest
newspapers, eliminating some of the most critical forms of competition.
I think they are dead set on deregulation for deregulation's sake."

Thanks for your replies and leads to other sources of info on this
matter~

All the best,

Mike Norton
