Talking Heads is a compilation of six touching and funny monologues that
first delighted audiences on the BBC in England. The Silvers will bring
two of these monologues to life when they direct and star in Bed Among
the Lentils and A Chip in the Sugar. (more information below)

Additional Information
Bed Among the Lentils will feature Dorothy Silver as the lonely
alcoholic country vicars' wife who is trapped in a loveless marriage.
She is a woman who is frustrated with her life and wonders what happened
to bring her to this point. The play explores her journey of reflection
and offers a surprising source for her salvation. For this monologue
Dorothy is directed by her husband Reuben. This marks the third time
that Reuben has directed Dorothy at the Beck Center. In 1991 he
directed Driving Miss Daisy and again, two seasons ago, when she starred
in Master Class.
Chip in the Sugar will feature Reuben Silver as a man in his 50's who is
still living with his mother. As he struggles with his homosexuality
and watches his mother's growing senility, he is forced to deal with his
mother's old suitor who has come back into the picture. Directing
Reuben will be his wife Dorothy.=20
While some couples strive to keep work separate from marriage, the
Silvers look for opportunities to keep working together. According to
Reuben, "Our knowledge of each other is a help, not a hindrance, in our
work." Dorothy adds, "The more you know about a person, the more you
can help them fulfill their potential. That is what the director/actor
relationship is all about." In addition to working together, the
couple also works separately on many projects. "We look for pieces with
wonderful and complex characters," Dorothy stated. "We were drawn to
this set of monologues because they are stories about complex characters
and the obstacles they must face in their lives." "The monologues are
a one on one confessional between the audience and the character," adds
Reuben. =20
The original Talking Heads monologues were first broadcast in 1998 and
received the
South Bank Show Award for Best Drama. The current Off-Broadway
production, starring Lynn Redgrave, has received award nominations from
the Outer Critics Circle, the Drama League and the Drama Desk awards.=20
