Re: Something new and different for the summer!

I am delighted to tell you about a new summer theatre conservatory that the Shaker Heights Community Life Department is launching. 

Open to students in grade 5 through 11, the Shaker Theatre Conservatory will offer classes taught by professionals in acting techniques, voice, stage combat, directing and movement. The three week program will culminate in a full production of Thorton Wilder’s Our Town.

We believe this program will provide students who are serious about expanding their knowledge of theatre with an experience not found in any other summer programs in Greater Cleveland.

STC students will work with outstanding artists including Paul Floriano (stage combat), Sarah May (acting and improvisation),  Gustavo Urdaneta (dance/choreography), and Beth Wood (basic acting and improvisation) and a prominent music teacher. Keith Nagy will design our sets and lighting and Martin Friedman will oversee the program and direct Our Town. 

We seek both students with extensive knowledge of theater as well as students who have a serious interest but little experience. We hope to work not only with students who are interested in acting, but students interested in backstage work as well. During rehearsals we will focus on both product and process.

The program runs Monday through Friday, June 16 through July 3, 2003 9:00am - 3:00pm. Before and after care is available. 

Cost: Residents of Shaker Heights: $380 

         Non-Residents: $430.
