WEATHERVANE COMMUNITY PLAYHOUSE
Named NorthEast Region Theater of the Year

Akron's own Weathervane Community Playhouse was host to the Ohio Community
Theatre Association's (OCTA) NorthEast Regional Conference this past weekend -
May 30 and June 1, 2003. Weathervane's facility has been completely remodeled
since they last hosted this conference in 1999. The new rooms including the
OMNOVA Solutions Lighting Booth, the Jack and Libby Jacobs Library and the
Northern Ohio Golf Charities Rehearsal Room plus the newly-expanded and resurfaced
parking lot (City of Akron) got a workout. A full weekend of activities
including networking, workshops and business meetings occurred with the highlight
being the thirty-minute excerpts presented by twelve NorthEast Ohio community
theatres.

Excerpting theaters were ANTIC, Amaranic/Galaxy Productions, Carnation City
Players, Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, Medina County ShowBiz, North Canton
Playhouse, Olde Towne Hall Theatre, Solon Center for the Arts, Stow Players,
Strongsville Community Theatre, Trumbull New Theatre and Weathervane Community
Playhouse.

Three theaters were chosen as outstanding examples of theater from the
NorthEast Region. They will present their 30-minute excerpts at OCTAs 50th
Anniversary State Conference in Columbus over the Labor Day weekend. They were:
Weathervane's production of The Laramie Project, Amaranic/Galaxy Productions
production of Fiddler on the Roof and Olde Towne Hall Theatre's production of
Forever Plaid. Carnation City Players production of Ordinary People was chosen as an
alternate. In addition, awards of merit and excellence were also presented
to a number of the nearly 300 participants. Weathervane's production of The
Laramie Project received four citations including Outstanding in Ensemble
Performance, Merit in Set Design for Alan Scott Ferrall, Merit in Costume Design for
Cynthia Zoller and Outstanding in Directing for Jacqi Loewy.

Weathervane Community Playhouse was also selected as the OCTA NorthEast
Region Theatre of the Year 2003, which is an award based on participation in
regional activities for the year.
