Weathervane Playhouse announces the cast for Gypsy, a musical fable based on=

the life of "Gypsy Rose Lee."  The musical will run June 18 - July 20, 2003,=
=20
Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. (The=20
production will have two low-cost PREVIEW performances on Wednesday & Thursd=
ay, June=20
18 & 19.  Official opening night is Friday, June 20. Appropriate for General=
=20
Audiences 13+.

OUR DIRECTING TEAM
NANCY CATES (Director) Nancy is an honors graduate of the University of=20
Virginia and has received five sets of regional and critics' awards for exce=
llence=20
in directing. She has directed more than a hundred productions in regional,=20
university and LORT theaters across the country including, locally, Ain't=20
Misbehavin', Pump Boys and Dinettes, and The Foreigner for Porthouse Theatre=
 Company=20
at Blossom Music Center and Oh, Coward! as a collaboration with the Ohio=20
Ballet.  She and her husband Terry Burgler are the Artistic Directors of the=
 Ohio=20
Shakespeare Festival, which opened its first season last summer with The=20
Taming of the Shrew at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens. For Weathervane, she has=
=20
directed Communicating Doors, Two Gentlemen of Verona, A Man for All Seasons=
 and=20
Blithe Spirit.

RON HAZELETT (Musical Director) began his professional career as a pianist,=20
receiving a bachelor's degree in piano performance from Kent State Universit=
y.=20
He continued his musical studies with a master's degree in vocal performance=
=20
from Marshall University where he won both district and regional awards in t=
he=20
Metropolitan Opera National Council audition. As music director, he has work=
ed=20
with Goodyear Community Theater, Hudson Players, Stow Players, Brecksville=20
Little Theater, Katfish Productions, Pointe West Studios and is presently th=
e=20
music director for the Peggy Lee Opera, produced and filmed by the Sundance=20=
Film=20
Studio in New York City.

JEFFREY GRAHAM HUGHES (Choreographer) As Artistic Director of the Ohio=20
Ballet, Jeffrey Graham Hughes has overseen production of more than forty bal=
lets=20
during his five year tenure.  Ohio Ballet in 2001-2002 collaborated with Day=
ton=20
Ballet for presentations of Peter Pan and Hamlet, toured thirteen states and=
=20
visited twenty cities.  Hughes most recently served as rehearsal director wi=
th=20
the Hong Kong Ballet where he was on the faculty and choreographed for the H=
ong=20
Kong Academy for Performing Arts.  His choreographic awards include Emerging=
=20
Choreographer at the Southeastern Ballet Festival and Best Choreography Ball=
et=20
Division at the Tao Li Bei dance competition held in mainland China.  He was=
=20
the first Westerner and non-Chinese to win this award.

DR. DAVID SPONDIKE (Conductor) teaches music theory and music history at=20
Firestone High School.  He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Ohi=
o=20
State University, a Master's degree in Music Education from The University o=
f=20
Akron and a Ph.D. in Music Theory and Composition from Kent State University=
.  Dr.=20
Spondike is active locally as a bassist and a composer.  He was pit conducto=
r=20
for Weathervane's musical, The Wiz last fall.

OUR CAST:
Cindy Jahn  Mama Rose   Parkman
Cindy teaches English and Drama at Stow-Munroe Falls High School where she=20
served as director for West Side Story, Barnum, Footloose and Fiddler on the=
=20
Roof.  She has been a Weathervane stalwart since 1987 when she played Sarah=20=
Goode=20
in The Crucible.  She also appeared in Jerry's Girls, A Little Night Music=20
(for which she won a Chanticleer) and Pygmalion.  She has also performed and=
=20
directed for Stow Players and Hudson Players.

Henry C. Bishop Herbie  Creston
Most recently, Henry portrayed Lazar Wolf in Fiddler on the Roof.  In 2001,=20
he was Pseudolous in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.  He has=
=20
also been seen in Oliver!, The Golden Apple, The Pirates of Penzance, Finnia=
n's=20
Rainbow, A Man for All Seasons and as Henry Ford in Camping with Henry and T=
om.

Alana Rader Louise  Fleetwood, PA
Alana transferred to Kent State University from American University in=20
Washington D.C.  Her BFA is from Kent State with a musical theater major whe=
re she=20
performed as Martha in Guys and Dolls and as Juliet in Measure for Measure.

Marissa Montigney   Dainty June Kent
Marissa has made eleven appearances on Weathervane's stage.  She was the=20
narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and portrayed Hodel=
 in=20
Fiddler on the Roof.  She won a Chanticleer for best supporting actress for=20=
that=20
role.  She has been on the Palace Theater stage in Cleveland and sang the=20
National Anthem for the Cleveland Indians.

Megan McCoy Electra     South Euclid
Megan expects to graduate from Bowling Green State University in May 2004. =20
She attended Brush High School where she was seen in Grease, Wizard of Oz,=20
Squad Room and Bye Bye Birdie.  This is Megan's first appearance on the=20
Weathervane stage.

Karen L. Wood   Mazeppa Creston
was most recently seen on Weathervane's stage as Abby in Arsenic and Old=20
Lace.  She was also seen in Fiddler on the Roof, A Funny Thing Happened on t=
he Way=20
to the Forum, Oliver!, Cabaret, Guys and Dolls and She Loves Me, all for=20
Weathervane.  Karen holds three Chanticleers among her accolades.  She has t=
aught=20
for 32 years and is an intervention specialist for the North Central Local=20
Schools in Wayne County.

Lisa Shay   Tessie Tura Akron
Lisa is an engineer at Advanced Elastomer Systems with a B.S. degree from=20
Auburn University.  She served as Assistant Stage Manager for The Chosen and=
 as=20
costumer for the Fantasticks for Weathervane.  She was also costumer for=20
Collected Stories and Play It Again, Sam at Coach House Theatre.
