Cleveland Yucks / Black Box Theatre Present:
=93Scorched Earth=94
An evening of brutal comedy.
Friday August 22nd 8:00 p.m
1220 West 6th Street
$8.00
On Friday August 22nd at 8:00 p.m., the Black Box Theatre, 1220 West 6th St=
reet, will feel the heat of 3 of Cleveland=92s most volatile stand up comic=
s. The Cleveland Yucks production of =93Scorched Earth=94 will showcase the=
searing, controversial, and sometimes confrontational styles of Mike Baker=
, Nell=92Sin, and John Sheck in a no holds barred - something to offend eve=
ryone celebration of freedom of expression=85 while it lasts.
Conceived by Baker, this show is a blatant =93F-You!=94 to the =93You need =
to watch what you say. / There ought to be limits to freedom.=94 crowd that=
seems to dominate the discourse as of late.
If you are easily offended and don=92t like to be challenged, this is not t=
he show for you.
If you are fed up to your eyeballs by ignorant, puritanical bigots shouting=
down any hint of intelligence or reason;
if you are sick of the arrogant bullies in power calling you un-American wh=
ile they ravage every principle America was founded upon;
if you simply can=92t take one more self righteous self-appointed High Prie=
st of public morality telling you what you can say, what you can wear, what=
you can ingest, who you can have sex with, and what kind of sex you can ha=
ve;
please consider this show as an alternative to taking an M-1 and seeing if=
you can out-score those Columbine boys. Don=92t just explode, explode with=
laughter!
Mike Baker has a long history of off-the-wall confrontational humor in Clev=
eland. In the late 80=92s =96 early 90=92s he was the originator and front =
man for two notorious punk bands, =93Sleazy Jesus and the Splatter Pigs=94 =
and =93Hucklebuck=94. Although bands in the true sense, these were also for=
ceful vehicles for his biting satire and unflinching social commentary. Sic=
k of lugging equipment, Mike has traded in his amplifiers for a single micr=
ophone and a new medium; stand-up. What hasn=92t been traded is his razor s=
harp satirical wit and his bare knuckles approach to performance. The guita=
rs still make an occasional appearance. They=92re just not quite as loud.
Nell=92Sin has been tearing up the urban comedy scene with his high energy,=
free wheeling style of story telling and comedy. Nell=92Sin seemed to come=
out of nowhere less than a year ago and quickly built a reputation as one =
of the most naturally talented comics on the local scene. His sets are wild=
, frenetic, rambling tirades that take you on a coaster ride of unexpected =
turns and directions. Alternately angry, crazy, vulnerable, silly; this guy=
runs the gamut of skills a stand-up needs in his tool box with an ease and=
flow that mesmerizes. And he=92s just a baby at it!
John Sheck is a legend of the comedy workshop crowd. Just one month out of =
Dave Schwensen=92s Improv workshop, he won the Russell Simmons Def Comedy J=
am competition and opened for the Comedy Jam at the Palace Theatre in front=
of 3000 people. Not bad for his first two months as a comic! John=92s bran=
d of urban =96 contemporary standup spans a variety of themes from relation=
ships to sex to football to sex to parenting to sex and of course, the poli=
ce. John is just back in the area from a couple of years in Florida and jum=
ping back into the scene feet first and fists flying.
The Emcee for the evening will be Cleveland=92s own Mr. Sunshine. Sunshine=
could best be described as Bill Nye the Science Guy with PMS.

eland comedy. The web site is located at http://www.clevelandyucks.com .
