THE FAIRMOUNT CENTER FOR THE CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 8/29/03 - Call 440-338-3171 for more information.

Robert Laessig, World Renowned Artist, To Be Honored at Fairmount Center
Gala
A COLLECTION OF HIS PAINTINGS WILL BE ON EXHIBIT AT THE FAIRMOUNT 'NIGHT
MOODS' Event

When the planning committee for Fairmount Center's second annual
NightMoods gala selected "Dare to Dream" as its theme, they never "dared
to dream" that Robert Laessig, an artist of world renown, would attend
the event. Not only will Mr. Laessig attend this September 20th event
at the Center, he will be center stage as he is honored during the
festivities for his lifetime of contributions to art. The Center is
honored to be hosting such a special and memorable event.
A collection of Mr. Laessig's paintings, some brand new, will be on
exhibit at the Fairmount Center gallery at the NightMoods gala.
Paintings by at least a dozen other invited artists will complete the
"Dare to Dream" exhibition. Mr. Laessig has donated an original
painting to be raffled off in a live auction. Several Laessig prints
top the collection of treasures available for bid during a silent
auction.

Mr. Laessig, a water colorist who is still painting, celebrated his 90th
birthday this year, so his "lifetime" has provided more than the usual
opportunities for accomplishments and honors.

During World War II, he served as a combat artist with the 13th Air
Force Historical Section. He illustrated the history of the 13th Air
Force with ninety paintings.

His paintings were accepted into every May Show at the Cleveland Museum
of Art since 1950. In 1959, one of his abstract paintings in this show
was purchased by the Cleveland Museum of Art for its permanent
collection. His works have been exhibited in art museums in Akron,
Youngstown, Massillon, Grand Rapids, and Springfield (MA) -- all on
special invitation. Three of his paintings are currently on exhibition
at the American Embassy in Norway.

Mr. Laessig had the honor of designing the official White House
Christmas cards for five years during the Johnson administration.

Over the years, he has won awards from the American Watercolor society,
Windsor & Newton, and National Academy of Design. A judge once stated:
"Here is an artist who sees in his humble subject the exquisite beauty
of all of nature and presents it to us with skill and imagination."

The Fairmount Center welcomes the community to join the festivities for
an exciting evening and an opportunity to meet and to enjoy the works of
an artist of world stature.
In addition to the Art Festivities include
*	Cocktails at 6:30 p.m. in the main building
*	Then move to a colorfully decorated and lighted tent for an
elegant dinner at 8:00 p.m.
*	Full moon, candlelight, Mediterranean cuisine,
*	Music
*	Entertainment
*	Live and silent auctions (One of Mr Laessig's original paintings
will be an offering in the auction)
*	Dancing
*	The spirited Fairmount Spanish Dancers will entertain during the
dinner hour.
Licia Russo Dolan is again serving as chairperson of this benefit for
the Center, a nonprofit, multi-arts organization that has been providing
quality arts programming to people of all ages and backgrounds for over
30 years. The Center recently welcomed Thomas Q. Fulton as its new
Executive Artistic Director.
Tickets for the NightMoods gala may be purchased by calling Fairmount
Center at 440-338-3171.
