providing exciting, evocative new and standard works by leading African =
American playwrights. The focal point of the five productions this =
season is women.   Women at various stages of life, crisis, age, health, =

The =93Grey Panthers=94 decatets are a body of 10-minute =
inter-generational plays that focus particularly on elders in American =
life.  Putting Pippy Away and Shacking Up Grey will have their World =
Premiers while  Hot Methuselah, Two Mens=92es Daughter and =
S=92posed-to-be Daddy are Ohio Premier plays.    The five plays are =
separate but are connected around the theme of the mercy seat and =
reconciliation. The =93mercy seat=94 refers to an actual chair in some =
Pentecostal churches, and to that moment when people come to the altar =
and bear witness.  Each story starts in crisis, and moves quickly.  =
Directed by Tisch Jones.

The year is 1949, and the plays=92 title refers to signs commonly posted =
in the southern region at that time. Halifax, North Carolina is where =
the Cheeks family, Rawl his wife, Mattie, and their two daughters live. =
They are visited by Yaveni, a Jewish scholar from Cleveland, who is =
researching the effects of prejudice on both Blacks and Jews and a =
mysterious local black woman with a dark secret.  Twists in this story =
include rape, deception and the wife being abandoned to struggle to =
raise her children alone.  Directed by Hassan Rogers.

Shelita Burns, a young editor bursts into the limelight with her first =
non-fiction book which is a best-seller, about the evocative memoirs of =
an elderly African American woman, whom she has only corresponded with. =
The book speaks to Shelita and her understanding of "the silenced =
voice"; meaning black literary works that never saw the light of day =
because of the author's race.  But when she seeks out the reclusive =
author, she is forced to confront her own future and a troubling =
question: Who owns the story of your life?  Directed by Terrence Spivey.

no guidance from elders, and with little understanding, compassion or =
thoughtfulness from their peers. The actors portray real people, each =
one with her own aspirations and plans for the future, a future which =
