Local Playwright Receives Honors
V-E Day, the new play by Faye Sholiton premiering this fall at Dobama
Theatre, is now an award-winning play. The script took First Prize in the
annual Arlene R. and William P. Lewis Playwriting Contest sponsored by the
Department of Theatre and Media Arts at Brigham Young University of Provo,
Utah. The award, which honors women writers, was established in 1990 by BYU
alumna Susan Lewis, who named the competition for her parents.
Sholiton was a finalist for the same prize in 1998, when she submitted her
play The Interview. Students and faculty will perform a staged reading of
V-E Day in October.
V-E Day is the story of a woman who made a choice nearly 60 years earlier
that changed the course of her life. One day, a man appears with a box of
World War II-era newsletters and transports her back to a time when she
believed that anything was possible.
The play will be done in staged reading at the Cleveland Play House on
November 1, as part of the Next Stage Festival of New Plays.
V-E Day will receive its world premiere production at Dobama Theatre
November 28-December 21, 2003.
