Boy Gets Girl tackles one of today's fastest growing issues, the crime
of stalking.  After seeing the film There's Something About Mary, which
trivializes the seriousness of stalking, Gilman set out to write a play
that depicts the terrifying way this crime can destroy a victim's life.
Boy Gets Girl is a disturbing chiller about a woman whose life of
accomplishment is quickly destroyed by a disturbed admirer whose
persistence turns to obsession and finally terror.  The play works
powerfully at its most basic level, as a suspenseful tale about the
unraveling of a strong woman's sense of security in the urban jungle.
The Beck Center's production of Boy Gets Girl will be directed by Sarah
May and will feature Elizabeth Ann Townsend, Paul Kaiser, Robert Hawkes,
James E. Savage, Jr., Betsy Kahl, Rose A. Leininger and Donald Krosin.
"It is an honor to be directing another of Rebecca Gilman's
thought-provoking pieces for the Beck Center.  I always love doing a
play that will leave an audience thinking and arguing long after the
coffee and dessert," says Sarah May.  "The post-show discussions we have
scheduled with the cast and guest speakers will be stimulating.
Cleveland audiences should really enjoy this great theatre experience!"=20
Rebecca Gilman's greatest strengths are in the questions she raises, and
the discussion she provokes, with her work.  Friday night performances,
October 10th, 17th and 24th, will be followed by audience "talk back"
sessions with experts in domestic violence and stalking crimes.  In
addition, running simultaneously in the Beck Center Galleria, all
audiences will have the opportunity to view the Clothesline Project, a
visual display that bears witness to the violence against women.  The
Clothesline Project began in Cape Cod, Massachusetts in 1990 to address
the issue of violence against women.  It is a vehicle for women affected
by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt.  The shirts
are then hung on a clothesline to be viewed by others as testimony to
the problem of violence against women.=20

The Beck Center presents Boy Gets Girl from October 3 through the 26th
in the Studio Theater during Domestic Violence Month.  A receptacle will
be available in the lobby for old cell phones, which will be donated to
a local domestic crisis shelter.=20
