Thank you to Matthew Putnam for his remarks about Christine Howey's review of our production of MY WAY, currently running at Weathervane Community Playhouse in Akron. As one of the performers in this show, I took particular offense to the mean-spirited comments made by Ms. Howey in her article for Scene magazine. I believe Ms. Howey really has no idea what this production is all about; she is clueless regarding the premise of this show. MY WAY is a celebration of Frank Sinatra's music. It is a tribute to the man, who, through his soothing voice and exceptional ability to get to the heart of those beautiful lyrics, brought happiness to so many people for over 60 years.

We, the performers, are simply being ourselves, singing as best we can to bring enjoyment to the audience, evoking memories, bringing tears, putting smiles on the faces of the people who come to hear the music they love. Sit in on the conversation in the lobby after one of our shows and you will see the tears amid the smiles, the warm "thanks for those memories," the happy faces of people of all ages who just got their money's worth and will come back for more.
Attacking the physical attributes of actors is just plain mean; I believe Ms. Howey needs a lesson in manners. Community theater actors do community theater because we love it. We have day jobs, we have families, we have lives outside of the theater. The cast of MY WAY is not trying to be Sinatra--there is no equal and we wouldn't even try. And we have, in Martin Cespedes, one of the finest director/choreographers around. His acting and directorial credits are outstanding and Weathervane is lucky to have hired him. He had the vision and the guts to take this new show and make it one of the classiest, sophisticated productions that Weathervane audiences have seen in a while, and I take more offense at Ms. Howey's slaps at him and his work.
Please. Ms. Howey, if you want to see Sinatra clones, you won't find them at Weathervane. You need to get to Vegas for that. What you will find on Weathervane's stage are four actors who are extremely proud of their work and their director, and it shows.
