of PROOF, by David Auburn. Playwright Auburn is the grandson of the late Dr=
.=20
Norman P. Auburn, former president of The University of Akron, and son of Dr=
s.=20
Mark and Sandy Auburn. Mark is Dean of Fine and Applied Arts at the=20
University. David Auburn made his off-Broadway debut in 1997, with the prod=
uction of=20
Skyscraper, shortly after graduating from a new playwriting program at The=20
Juilliard School in New York. In 2000, he won the Kesselring prize for=20
playwriting. In 2001, he was the script consultant for the musical Tick, Ti=
ck=E2=80=A6Boom. =20
He has received the Helen Merrill Playwriting Awards and a Guggenheim=20
Foundation Fellowship.
PROOF is a warm drama about a troubled woman who has sacrificed her own=20
college education to care for her mentally ill professor-father, a genius in=
=20
mathematics. Although talk of mathematics is plentiful, at the heart of PRO=
OF is an=20
intimate father-daughter relationship. Catherine has inherited her father's=
=20
humor and, to an indeterminate degree, both his genius and, possibly, his=20
illness. On the eve of her father's funeral - her 25th birthday - we find h=
er at=20
the intersection of a haunting past and a blank future.
The Director
Jacqi Loewy returns to Weathervane having recently directed The Laramie=20
Project, The Fantasticks and Little Shop of Horrors. Currently residing in=20
Cleveland, Loewy received her graduate degree in theater from The University=
of Akron=20
during which time she also appeared on our stage in Prelude to a Kiss and Si=
x=20
Degrees of Separation. Her Broadway credits include choreography on two=20
productions and a three-year stint as an actress. Local directing credits i=
nclude=20
Berlin to Broadway and The Fantasticks for Lyric Opera Cleveland, The Eight:=
=20
Reindeer Monologues for Cleveland Public Theater, Look Back in Anger for=20
Charenton Theater Company, Speed the Plow for The University of Akron and th=

upcoming world premiere of V-E Day by Cleveland playwright Faye Sholiton.
The Cast:
Ralph Cooley, Robert, Stow
Ralph was, most recently, seen on the Weathervane stage as Tevye in Fiddler=20
on the Roof. Previously he played Izzy in King of the Kosher Grocers, Big=20
Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Senator Rawkins in Finian's Rainbow among=
=20
others.
Heather L. Snell, Catherine, Cleveland
Heather is Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Cuyahoga Community College,=
=20
holds and Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics from Kent State University. She has bee=
n=20
seen in productions at Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland Shakespeare=20
Festival, Coach House Theatre, Strongsville Little Theatre, North Royalton P=
layers,=20
Huntington Playhouse and Clague Play House.
Jesse James Kamps, Hal, Cleveland
Jess has been seen in productions at Beck Center, Ensemble Theatre, Charento=
n=20
and the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival. He was a resident actor with=20
Cleveland Signstage Theatre and has done three national tours as part of the=
company.
Melanie R. Korman, Claire, Akron
Melanie holds a BA degree in Mass Media Communications from The University o=
f=20
Akron and is Director of Public Programs at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. She=20
has been seen in productions at Copley High School, Tree City Players and Th=
e=20
Kent Stage.
