North Coast Men’s Chorus Announces 2003 – 2004 Season

CLEVELAND - The North Coast Men’s Chorus will open its 2003 –2004 Season with two performances of “Sugar Plum Fairies” on December 20 and 21. Cleveland’s only gay men’s chorus will continue its season with performances of “Only In The Movies” on March 27 and 28, and “Pride & Joy” on June 19 & 20. For the fourth consecutive year, all performances will be at Waetjen Auditorium at Cleveland State University.

Perhaps the highest profile gay organization in Northeast Ohio, the North Coast Men’s Chorus has grown to over 100 singing members, under the direction of Music Director, Richard Cole. The all volunteer organization, founded in 1988 is a community based musical organization which affirms the gay experience by presenting entertaining, quality performances for diverse audiences; providing a supportive environment for its members; and promoting a positive presence in the gay community and beyond.

Members of the Chorus represent the widest possible diversity: from doctors, lawyers, and bankers to service workers, and everything in between. The Chorus’ programming reflects the same level of diversity with singing, dancing, and comedy, through music from around the world. The performances also take the audience through an entire range of emotions. As one audience member noted, “I laughed, giggled, squealed, clapped, stomped my feet, and cried at least twice. Your shows always bring out a range of emotions for me because of the music you choose; it represents life and its rainbow of experiences.”

Included on the program for “Sugar Plum Fairies” is a range of offerings from Vivaldi to an Afro-Caribbean arrangement of “Silent Night” in English and German originally arranged for “Broadway Cares: Carols for a Cure,” a ballet sequence choreographed by Lora Workman, Irving Berlin’s I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm,” a Spanish Christmas lullaby as well as a seldom-performed Chanukah song in English and Hebrew. The Chorus’ celebrated specialty ensemble, The Coastliners will also perform.

Last Season’s holiday show, “We Wish You The Merriest,” sold out. Subscriptions for the entire 2003 – 2004 Season, as well as tickets for “Sugar Plum Fairies” are currently available on-line at www.ncmchorus.org or by calling 216.556.0590.
